2016 6th round selection for the Leafs. He was not very good in the OHL from what I saw. He had a weird trajectory after the Leafs opted not to sign him. He went to the University of Ottawa for a couple years, played 8 games for Laval in the AHL, played a season in Austria. He was the player of the year in the DEL this past season.

I can't say he was on my radar at all. I wonder how much the Leafs scouted him and who did? You don't see much action out of the DEL.

Someone tell me how to feel

Just a depth signing likely to be with the Marlies for the season. I wouldn't expect much out of this. Probably had some interest from a few teams so they couldn't add him to an AHL contract.

He played a big role in the Hamilton Bulldogs 2018 OHL championship. He wasn’t the #1 D but he was reliable.

Assuming he is just an AHL depth signing...

Does anyone follow him enough to know if he has actually developed well? DEL is a decent league and being the player of the year is a good sign, just assuming he is close to a finished product at 26.

I hope the scouting department wasn't told to focus on size as a big priority on the backend, if skill comes with it, great.

Having said that, no clue if that is a top priority, we've just had a couple of signings of guys who are looking like a #6 at best and look like they were brought in only for size, but I trust our scouting department, so hope this turns out good.

he put up big numbers in the DEL and was the top point getter as well as scorer for his team

and he's 6'5.

so there is potential here so leafs are hedging here. player might be NHL ready now, we drafted him the same year we drafted Matthews. But it's also not a guarantee.

I think the Leafs will give him the opportunity to prove himself.

From what I remember of this guy he had a bomb of a shot and was an average skater and defensively. So if he worked on the last 2 things then he might not be a bad signing to give a tryout to on the Marlies.

The only video I found of him really and he still has that bomb but that's all you can really see. Skating didn't look bad on that 1 breakaway where he got saved by Hildeby. Blasts one past Hildeby in the next clip.

I remember the name that’s all. You wonder how many players faded out after not making it in their first few years and sort of gave up when all they needed was a few more years. People need to move on and make a living I suppose.

I like these moves with Webber and Mattinen.

We just traded two 3rds + at the deadline to rent Lyubushkin and Edmunson.

These moves have no risk, and if you hit and they turn in to solid bottom pairing options for us, that has real value.

This kid has earned everything he's gotten as well, he went to Europe, and played well enough to get a two-way deal here.

Thinking about it now it would be perfect if he could become another Franson on our 3rd pair in the future if he works out.

I like that we drafted him and we are getting some years of service out of him.

I like that he is 6'6, 225lbs.

He was voted the best player in the DEL last season which has thrown him onto team's radar.

Looks like he could benefit a LOT from an "NHL Summer" with the Leafs' Sports Science, Nutrition and Conditioning specialists! Appears he could benefit with 5 to 10 pounds of muscle,

If I remember correctly we threw a few darts at giants in 16.
Maybe we’ll get something out of 1 of them after all.
