Well, after 3 years he's going to get a lot more expensive ... so i'd have liked a longer term for a player who is as much a lock to perform as you will almost ever find in sports... but probably the lower cap hit is the exchange for the shorter term.

Hyman is 2 years away from UFA, so they paid for it with a higher AAV over the 4 year term since they bought out 2 UFA years. Contract status is important.

Regardless I pegged that Brown would get a $3 X 3 type of deal so this is a nice bargain for a top 9 winger that can play at both ends, PK, play some secondary PP minutes, and pot 20+ goals
