Trick question. That's clearly Fleury.

Odd game. From the eye test it seems like the pens actually had better possession for the majority of the game. They just weren't able to finish anything. Also, even though the pens pp is vaunted, I don't trust it. It is too inconsistent and prone to giving up short handed situations.

The turning point was that terrible call by the ref. It is one thing to take a goal away but another to take a goal away and call a penalty that leads to a 4 on 3 situation. The call actually pisses me off more than the loss.

Anyhow, at least Malkin got a point and it didn't turn out to be a shutout.

Tomorrow's game against the Stars will be tough.

FWIW the goaltender interference thing seems to be a big problem league-wide, especially this year.

Though, I mean... lets just kinda cut the pretense and go with "NHL reffing is a big problem. Full stop."

It is, because they always need one big thing they’re terrible at every season. At the root of it they’re terrible refs for a terrible league with terrible accountability.

I can't help but think that Babcock repeatedly complaining about his team getting jobbed on goaltender interference calls had something to do with the call on Dumo.

That circles back to the refs being impressionable or unprofessional. Honestly, if they can be played like that then all coaches need to get in on it.

This needs to be highlighted. Murray’s development curve is something you never expect. It makes no sense. He put up bad numbers in juniors until something clicked in his final year, then he dominated the AHL and then he didn’t miss a beat in the nhl. 13 RS games and then he handled the playoffs. It took him 3 years to go from a forgettable prospect to winning the cup.

Anyone who said Jarry was better than him now or would be soon was being ridiculous. Maybe Jarry is never better than he is now but expecting him to be Murray was dumb.

He's just so mentally strong. You never expect to see that from someone his age. Hell, you don't expect it from a 30 year old. Matt Murray isn't the most talented goalie to come along, but he's so focused, so calm and collected, he has qualities that defy age and experience and it's not really something that can be taught. To criticize another young goalie for not having that edge is like criticizing a teenage girl because she's not Cindy Crawford.

I think they are just a big gaggle of dumbshit meatheads who couldn't cut it at the actual sport so they do this, instead. But they never let go of needing to be a part of outcome so they insist on making themselves a determining factor in the games and do things like keep lists of players they pay extra attention to or let slide on stuff. And the league does nothing. And why would they? This is the same consortium of bush-league jagoffs that stock their PLAYER SAFETY department with former league punching bags and troglodytes.

this was kind of opposit to the game with Flames,

tons of lucky bounces for Leafs

that third line should be abolished with the official document, it looks so bad and also does not even make sense, three guys that are not forecheckers, two of them are centers that come as F3s, and Kessel who should not be forechecking anyw

is it coincidence that our PK started sucking since the PK specialists came back

Problem atm is injuries(Murr, Rust, ZAR, Simon) and trying to force Brass into a defensive C role.
The 6 D dressing is the best they're gonna get and they just need to get them going with the F's(5 man pressuring in all 3 zones).

Atleast when fully healthy your 4th line can look something like:
Sheahan with Rust/Horny/Jooris/ZAR/Sheary/Simon
or
Brassard with Rust/Horny/Jooris/ZAR/Sheary/Simon

My preference is to go back to Sheahan-Phil as your 3rd line and Brass is the guy i use on LW sometimes or OZ start C'ing.

Personally, I hope I'm still alive when the robots take those jobs. Actually, they probably wouldn't even need an actual bot on the ice, just sensor arrays. They'd only have to roll out to bust up fights. Viva la Revolution!

I think Murray coming into the league and immediately winning 2 cups has skewed many pens fans perception of what a rookie goaltender normally does.

Jarry is certainly no J.S. Aubin, that's for sure.

Shit... our new striped robot hockey overlords won't even need to worry about breakin' up fights, these days.

Yeah, I think he’s a smart goalie and he has physical tools but at the end of the day he just has that mental component in spades. Back to back shutouts in the cup final and that double OT game 7 win against Ottawa says it all. Maybe he loses it one day but it’s an insane amount of mental toughness and resilience to see in a young goalie.

Great comparison and it’s the type of thing that can f*** people up.

They need to be treated like children and told that inaction is in itself action, for one thing. Then it needs to be accountability and understanding that people’s lives, quality of life and livelihood are in their hands. Those morons are the frontline for player safety.

The refs and DoPS need to be gutted and retired goons or dirty players need to be told to f*** off.

A Penguin has drone fall on them. Guaranteed.

They are seriously at a point where technology can start limiting the influence of the idiots, though.

Yeah. We'll be waiting a while.

Not that I disagree with you. I couldn't have said it any better, myself. But this shit has been going on a while. The whole league is one giant old boys club. They clearly don't care about growing the sport so where is the leverage against them? They are just gonna keep on keepin' on.

That Marchand is a good ol fashioned Canadian man's man, ya know? Not afraid to get his hands dirty! He'll be the perfect guy to head up the DOPS when he retires!
