Averaged 16 minutes of icetime in the playoffs for CSKA. Still one year remaining on his KHL.
contract.

Still in the picture for the Blue Jackets?

Hard to tell. He was highly thought of before Jarmo left, but CBJ has some good young depth in the blue line coming in. I've liked him and hope he gives North America a try, but we'll see

One of the benefits for Columbus is that they have him rights forever.

He still needs to get better, but if that 16 minutes for CSKA in the playoffs is 23 minutes in three years they could have a Gavrikov type of situation.

Maybe in the long term picture.

The Jackets already have difficulty finding AHL minutes for all of the young D. Svozil and Jiricek are obviously highly thought of, Ceulemans and Knazko sometimes have to play more limited minutes down there, and Mateychuk is coming next season. So Makarov is better off staying in Moscow at least another couple years. He's in a good role there for his development.
