6'7"? Wow he's a huge kid.

Maybe a Chara comparison? Don't know much about the kid, so just throwing a size comparison in there. Any NHL styles he could be compared to??

He is usually partnered up with Mikhail Sergachyov and they both play on the PP. He is pretty good for a big guy! late first early second?

He seemed good last night Plays alot of mins and doesnt look out of place. Seemed like he was a bit mean out there too, kept players in line after the whistle.

Hal Gill played over 1,100 Career NHL games, why would an NHL team not draft that type of player before pick 40?

As for Stanley, can anybody comment on his skating ability?

Because today's NHL is way faster than early 90's NHL and players with lack of quickness doesn't look good on a NHL ice anymore.

Is his skating a big problem? If he has hockey sense to go along with that size and some nasty, somebody will gamble that he can gain a step before he drops too far. It's just too hard to pass up.

He's not a bad skater. He's certainly mobile for a big guy.

Our issues with him deal with decision making....plain and simple. He's played with Segachyov a lot and we think he masks Stanley's issues.

He's a project pick for a team willing to be patient with him. Like 5-7 years patient.

So draft and be prepared to lose on waivers

imho this seems like a pick for the jets, we can play him with trouba or myers and it will help him out.

No. Draft him and wait long for him to reach his potential. He can be a bottom pairing guy for the first few years but he won't play like a first round talent right off the bat.

If he's not an every day guy by 23 you run risk of him being exposed to waivers. It's a very real issue with D who require time to develop. Under current system, your patience turns into someone else's asset.

I think this guy is overrated and it's absolutely ludicrous when guys like Lucas Johansen (though I am a noted fan of his), Kale Clague etc are from what I've seen, universally ranked lower than this guy.

Though he can get around, his acceleration and top speed are poor and he's not a dynamic backwards skater imo. His decision making is sub par. Yeah he can use his size at the junior level. Everything else is meh.

Not a first rounder, and a gamble in the 2nd round. This guy is a project.

Leafs have enough picks (late 2nd early 3rd) that it wouldn't kill them to throw a dart at a big bodied defense project.
It certainly an area of short and long term need. Though if his hockey sense is viewed as problematic I wouldn't want anything to do with him at all.

He needs to seriously work on his transitioning from backwards to forwards.

He gets beat on the outside pretty handedly.

Sounds like he's uncoordinated. I guess being 6'7" at 17 years old makes it hard for your reflexes, muscles, balance etc. to fine tune due to nearly constant growth.
As long as he approaches the game with the understanding of how to play his position successfully he can develop his physical attributes and improve his ability to do so. If he doesn't get it(mentally) at this point in his development and isn't showing signs of hockey sense that's another story. As the saying goes, "you can't fix that".
