Do you think Zhuravlyov can play one day in nhl?
First of all he is drafted, so even back then at least some people thought he could.
Right now he is benefitting from two factors. It's a new coach who has a history of trusting young players with some ice time. He was giving Kayumov, Denisenko, Kovalenko their fair share for sure with Loko. The other factor is AkBars's D being young overall. Ozhiganov is our oldest defenceman at 26. The average age is somewhat below 24. So it's not like he is taking ice time away from some battle hardened vets, which can be a positive and negative as well. On the positive side he will probably continue to get ice time. On the negative side there is no measuring stick of a been there done that veteran on the roster nor is there a mentor like Markov this time around. One other thing is the roster right ñow carries 11 defencemen who all rotate. It's the start of the season. Decisions might be coming up, but for now Zhuravlyov looks like he belongs and for the small sample size since the beginning of the season he looks definitely better than 3-4 guys who are obviously older(that's huge for a 19y.o.) and he gains the trust of the coaches playing on the 2nd pairing a lot.
The jury is still out on everything this season. The coach gives young players a long leash, but his system is less structured. The big test is coming up mid-October, 6 games in a row against the league's best. That will determine the molding of the team as well as Zhuravlyov's place on it. I am looking forward to it to see how our young group holds up.
With his current game Zhuravlyov looks like a lock for WJC. That also might bring some input.
I don't think he is a future NHLer no questions asked, but if he continues to grow and develop in the KHL he might get there. His style does fit today's mobile game. Weight is a issue though(which is nothing out of the ordinary at 19). He needs to beef up AND not slow down.
