So if you see Evans as the 12th roster player who gets the last two spots with $3m in cap space. I see Gauthier at 700k and Janmark at $1.3m with Evans taking the rest as a likely scenario. A free agent signing at mid tier would mean Tartar leaves. Is Hoffman better? I don’t think so. Hall will use the habs to drive up the price. Habs need left wing scoring from players who will play the 200 foot game. Toffoli is a right wing. I would be surprised if Dadenov fits as he does not offer much over Tartar. Looks like left wing will be Tatar, Drouin, Lehky, and Byron. Right side top three spots held by Gally, Anderson and Armia. The fourth spot to Evans or Janmark et al.

I'd rather Belzile than weal. Belzile can forcheck, and weal can't do anything.

unless they make a trade my guess is they go with 8 D,

Chia Weber
Edmundson Petry
Mete Romanov
Kulak Juulsen

then have a bunch of guys battle it out for the 4th line spots

Evans, Weal, Hudon, Belzile, Blandisi, Dauphin,

so it ends up,

Byron Evans Weal, xxx

I want Corey Perry on the fourth line. Better then Weal, Belzile, and Hudon

The last RW spot has to be someone signed from the UFA market.

While it's true the need for a good backup goalie is important on a speculated condensed schedule, the need for good forward depth is equally as important.

Being one injury away from having 3 of Weal, Evans, Baddock, Dauphin and Belzile in the lineup is quite alarming. You can have one of these guys on your starting lineup. Not two.

I think it's worst if you end up with Weber or Petry out. We need to carry 8 dmen and play 7 in most games.

Weber/Petry

Edmundson/Chariot
Kulak/Mete
Ouellet/Juulsen
Romanov.

Trade Byron and sign Granlund. Granlund on a bad season gets 40 point, what Byron get on a very good season.
This sends Lehkonen on the 4th with Weal and a missing center or Evans.

There still a few guy that could be low risk high reward...
Hoffman, Duclair, Athanasiou, Granlund, Dadonov any one
of them would be a upgrade over Byron or Lehkonen.
Then there Kovalchuck which we could use on the 4line, PP and shoutout ( providing vet / superstar credibility to help young guy along). we are paying 4.3M$ for a backup to get a few extra win, we could pay for a PP and shoutout specialist which could also result in a few extra wins.

I worked out that we still have about $4M to work with.

Option A: If we add another top-6 LW like Hoffman, Dadonov or Toffoli that likely means we have to clear Byron's salary so...

Lehkonen - Evans - ________

Option B: If we add a middle-6 LW at under $4 like Soderberg, Wilson, Athanasiou, Duclair, Haula, Kahun, Granlund

Byron - Evans - Lehkonen

Option C: We play Byron or Lehkonen as 3LW and simply add a 4th line player for cheap.

Byron/Lehkonen - Evans/_____ - Evans/______

I think we can still pull off A or B, I'd hate if we settled for option C.

I would sign Dadonov for the top-9

Perry for the 4th line

Nieto as an extra forward

Martel as an AHL scorer

Tatar-Danault-Gallagher
Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson
Dadonov-Kotkaniemi-Armia
Lehkonen-Evans-Perry
**Byron, Nieto

===

AHL
Hudon-Poehling-Weal
Blandisi-Martel-Belzile
Dauphin-Vejdemo-Ylonen
Lucchini-Alain-Baddock

Hoffman seems like a decent fit. We’re goal starved especially in the playoffs. Hoffman would also help on the PP.

Drouin Suzuki Anderson
Hoffman Kotka Armia
Tatar Danault Gallagher
Byron Evans Lehky

Would be pretty content with that lineup. Question is can we fit Hoffman’s contract and be under the cap?

Hoffman at 4,5M for 3 years?

For we to get the likes of Hoffman, Dadonov or Toffoli someone will need to go. Problem here is not many teams would want to take on a contract without giving a contract. So forget these guys

So the options I believe we have are only these guys Soderberg, Wilson, Athanasiou, Duclair, Haula, Kahun, Granlund, Janmark, Nieto, Leivo, Boyle, Perry

Not sure we can get him for $4.5M but even if we could, we don't have $4.5M. Someone has to go.
