Carolina v. Florida, a 6-6 tie on April 4, 2004. Beating out Philly- NYI by about 2 hours.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) _ Playing his first NHL game, Brad Fast helped the Carolina Hurricanes avoid an embarrassing to their season.

Fast scored his first NHL goal with 2:26 left in the third period and Carolina tied the Florida Panthers 6-6 after squandering a four-goal lead Sunday.

First and only NHL game that he played. Great trivia question.

Not sure your question on this one. But in the 1999-'00 season is where they introduced 4-on-4 in overtime. There were still ties up until 2005 when the shootout was brought in

Overtime in regulation was brought in in 1983 or 1984. There was a 40 year break from it and it was stopped by the NHL because of War time train schedules I believe
