He is the player that I have suggested trading as well as we are loaded at LD and his value might be high with a GM who might be willing to give us a very good forward prospect or perhaps a top 4 projected RD prospect.

This is not to say that I think he is guaranteed to be a sheltered pp specialist but I think that is his most probable role as a future NHLer. If we are going to trade one of our young dmen then we might as well trade the one with the most risk but still holds alot of potential value. No way we are trading Guhle or Reinbacher and the rest of our prospects are very good but may not have enough shine on them to entice a GM into giving up something of real value.

If Buffalo were interested and were willing to trade Strbak+ for him I would be tempted to jump on that tbh. Stat heads won't like it but they didn't like Struble either. Just an idea that popped in my head, likely because I really wanted Strbak this past draft much like I wanted Luneau in the prior draft.

Now I assume the crash position and wait for the mob to show up.....

Different people will have different takes. Hutson’s going to be a polarizing player due to his unique profile. I have no issue with people being down with us dealing him due to his shortcomings. That’s their opinion and they’re entitled to it.

But thanks to @montreal posting all of his shifts, I’ve actually been able to watch this guy. In my opinion his ceiling is way too high to trade away. I’ll take the shortcomings for the strengths. I see him as a first line guy paired with a physical two way player. He’s just too good not to get there in my opinion.

But it’s going to take time for him to fill in. He’s a beanpole and needs a good 20lbs to add. That’s going to take time. I don’t think he’s with us until 25-26 at the earliest.

The question marks are valid but honestly he’s not some skilled floater. He plays with a ton of heart and passion. I’m utterly convinced that whatever he needs to do to be elite, he’ll do it. Don’t trade him. That’s nuts

Agreed.

If you’re going to trade him it better be for a blue chip star. No way we should give up talent like this even if he isn’t a sure thing.

Maybe the skeptics will be right but if they aren’t… God damn. Whether you think it’ll translate or not the potential for superstar is there. I just hope he can realize it.

Yeah people worrying about that game is silly. Don’t even care about his production at this point. Would rather him look good defensively at this point.

for the more older posters that remember this board giving McDonagh shit for his WJC's but it seems like a time honored tradition now that posters overrate or underrate what a prospect does at a 4-5-6-7 game tournament. Suzuki was a bum after the WJC's, Poehling by the summer was talked about as a possible rookie of the year in the NHL.

Caufield both WJC's was a bum (I don't care if he's in a slump, he will score goals in the NHL, perhaps his shoulder isn't where he needs it to be yet, we need him in a couple years to be a 40 goal scorer, so not worried yet although I'm also not watching him play too much). On the other hand Collberg was going to be a stud when he was over a ppg at 17, or Romanov was going to suddenly show off so much more offensive upside that he's never shown before the WJC's or since.

It happens, fans get caught up in the emotion of it all, it's a fun time and it's easy to get carried away but in the end it doesn't mean much other then a great experience for them that they hopefully can build off.

I wouldnt trade Hutson at that point personally, first because his value might not be that high, it would take a GM in love with his game willing to pay the price, 2nd because his talent level is really high and kid might end up as one of the most spectacular players to watch. Lets say he gets paired with a solid partner, stable defensively, physical who can cover some of his mistakes and that pairing has incredible chimestry, then having a charismatic player like Hutson is priceless and his value will be just greater than it is now, also we will have a better picture of our D core at that point, in 2-3 yrs from now, so we are going to have more informations about who might get traded and who should stay. I think its too early to trade any of our top prospects unless you have an offer you cant refuse of course.

It's just the forum in here bud.. alot of posters have pretty interesting takes, i like thinking both sides..
Also, us older guys who lived the 80s+ have seen decades of the team and iterations of success and failure.
Dont take anything personally, im a huge Habs fan but I have no care in the world for players.. ofcourse i enjoy watching certain players more - but when I watch the stanley cup it truly is a team win.. so team concept is completely out of our hands - nobody knows the dynamic behind the scenes and that is all that matters.

You forgot the drop-pass and slow-ass entry by Suzuki that preceded your sequence.

Funny you say that because i'm glad i don't live in that world where the nihilism and negativity are so strong that having legendary seasons against peers are entirely discarded because the player may be 2 inches too short.

We've litterally just seen this with Caufield. I don't expect Hutson to instantly lose all of his hunger and skills when turning pro. He will find a way to make it work you can't teach what the guy does. Y'all seemed to have more hopes in Poehling at the time when he couldn't even produce in the NCAA i don't get it.

I find it insane to bet against guys showing as much dominance, skill and uniqueness as Hutson.
