He's a brilliant OFD. Anyone who doubted his abilities to make plays at the NHL level is looking pretty silly. I don't suspect he'll ever be above average defensively, but with his talent and IQ it might not matter, especially if he's played with more of a shutdown guy.

He is going to score a lot of points in this league. Really fun player to watch.

After 5 minutes of research, as far as I can tell, Lane will become the first defenseman to finish his rookie season at a point per game or above since Ryan Poehling.

Thought he looked good for his first games. He looks like he has that Q. Hughes blue line shiftiness.

Was laughing at the Habs crowd getting hyped watching him.

Also thought Slaf was good, don't watch much Montreal games besides when they play the Wings. Reading here you would think he is the biggest bust in the world. I should know better.

Looked great out there.... has more skill and better skating than many. Hopefully he can put on 15lbs into his early 20s, and get close to 175-180 lbs. Future looks good!

I havent heard a single expert say he could be a bust..... you dont absolutely dominate NCAA for 2 years, and just lose that skill in the NHL. Size may be an issue in terms of his physical play, but his floor is a PP specialist.

Watched most of that game last night. Couple things I noticed: he is quite electric with the puck. He was in college too so not too surprising. He loves to juke and maneuver at the point. Good agility. Good ability to get point shots through.

Positioning and puck battles are still, imo, junior/college level. He is faster than I thought he'd be so he can make up for some of the positioning issues but the kid cannot defend and gets pushed off pucks like he's a toddler on skates. I think he should spend a lot of time in the AHL.

definitely needs to add a good 15 lbs, and that should come into his early-mid 20s. Im not too worried about that as he is up to 5'10..... Even if he tops out at say 177 lbs, I think his skill and skating will still be enough to keep him in the NHL for years and years. He just may need a good pairing D partner early in his career to stay back a bit more so he can pinch and carry the puck into the O zone.... kinda like Subban used to do a lot here.

I think Reinbacher would be a great fit for him down the road.

He has already been on the ice for 4 goals against. That has to be a bit concerning since that was his weakness as a prospect.

People saying "but he's minus 2" are the same incompetents who couldn't see that Slafkovsky was breaking out at the start of the year. Watching some games wouldn't hurt you guys. There was only one of those goal he made a clear mistake on...

concerned about a 20 year old skilled Dman's defensive awareness in first 2 NHL games after going from NCAA straight to NHL? No.... You learn that over many years of experience. Ask Quinn Hughes how he looked at first compared to now.

The fact the he generated 2 goals and showed a lot of confidence in his skill and skating is a lot more telling of whats to come.
