"From what we understand, Laferriere will be signing an Amateur Tryout contract (ATO) and report to AHL Ontario this week. The Reign have eight regular season games remaining on their schedule, including the next three at home – beginning Wednesday. Laferriere is expected to play in about five of them. Then, he will report to the Kings for their final two games of the regular season, Mon. Apr. 10 vs. Vancouver and Thurs. Apr. 13 at Anaheim. He most likely won’t play in either game. However, by activating his NHL contract for the 2022-23 season, it will ‘burn a year’ off the deal. Meaning, he will have two full seasons left on his contract starting with the 2023-24 campaign."

No way he sees any time with LA this year unless we clinch the conference with one game remaining and rest all of our regulars.
Agreed...they may want to rest a few players for playoffs (and avoid potential injuries) and let all of: JAD,. MacEwen, Grundstrom, Laferriere and EVEN Kaliyev play in the last 1 or 2.

So if he's going to be with the kings the final 2 games, whats the purpose of an ATO? Why not just sign the ELC now?
I think it’s because they only have a select number of non-emergency AHL call-ups left. When he signs the ELC he will immediately be added to the Kings and won’t count as a call-up. If he signed his ELC today and was assigned to Ontario he would count as a call-up when they brought him in for the final 2 games.

I am sure Blake explained it to him...welcome to the Kings, Alex. Just wait until you are a paper callup / send down next year for cap reasons...and learn to play all 3 forward positions in Ontario on lines 3 and 4.. Maybe late next year get your cup of coffee....a weak one, with 7:08 TOI, after sitting the first 3 games out. Don't make a mistake, or it may be 5:22 TOI. Oh, score a goal and you'll still be scrathced, the following game anyway. The most important thing? Learn how to become a 'Todd trusted player'. (TTP) This is beyond Harvard scholar stuff, you've learned. A TTP badge earned, means you'll have to unlearn to use your innate and high level abilities, to play another type of game. Study Iafallo tapes, for starters. Meanwhile, your classmate Farrell already played with the Canadiens and Coronato and Thrun wil probably see NHL ice this week.

EDIT: Hoven said he's wearing #28 with the Reign. If he actually does (sign ELC) and come up to the Kings, JAD wears 28. makes no sense...UNLESS he is not signing now? And / or not coming up?

well....some good news!
Since Turcotte, Kupari, Byfield and Vilardi are not taking 3C, let alone 2C....hoping Laferriere
elevates to his hoped ceiling, whether it be at C or RW

Congrads!

He's a winger and has been his entire career. Him converting to center would be very alarming to me.

He's really going to be up with the Kings?

Maybe just a way to give him some extra salary.

As Chazz already pointed out, just a way to agree to get him to sign. A year off the ELC and 2 NHL game checks. And the Kings get him in the AHL all next season. Everyone is happy
