Usually February is a though month for players to score in. The grind of the regular season usually gets the best of players in February. Last year 9 goals was enough to win you the February goal scoring race. And Zetterberg and Iginla holds the record for most February goals since 2000 with 13. Iginla scored 13 in 2003 and Zetterberg did it in 2007. We have to go all the way back to 1997 to find a better result, when hall of famer Brendan Shanahan had his legendary February were he put up 14 goals, beating all time greats like Lemiuex, Selanne and Hull in the race. The all time record for February goals is held by Joe Malone who scored 18 goals back in 1921.

When we look at this years February and the Schedule we can see that one player stands out compared to the rest and that's Patrick Laine. The Schedule clearly shows that Laine is being booked strong in February, with 10 of the 12 games being home games including the first 9 games in February. The only 2 road games happen to be against Dallas and St Louis, 2 teams that Laine has played extremely well against. And the Jets only have 1 back to back game in February as well. Now this Schedule was even better before the season started as the first 3 games is played against Vegas, Colorado and Arizona, but with Vegas and Colorado doing so well this season it has clearly backfired a bit.

Analyzing Laine's opponents in February we can see that Laine has scored 27 goals against them in 41 career games so far. That's clearly way above average when you consider Laine has only scored 32 goals in the other 83 games he's played against all the other teams in his career. So he's got a clear advantage when it comes to the opponents as well as a home game advantage. And then you got to factor in how good Winnipeg has been this year, the fact that Laine hasn't had a hot streak yet and could go on one any moment now, plus the fact that Laine is leading the League in powerplay goals, it's starting to look really good for Laine come February. With scoring being up this year too, my prediction is that Laine will go on a hot streak, scoring 14 goals in 12 games this February. I don't think Laine has got any shot at breaking the all time record for February, as Maurice is a terrible coach and will most likely keep Laine back a bit.

So what do you guys think, will we see a huge February from Laine or will he crash and burn? And is there any other guys out there that could go on a huge run and challange Laine for the lead?

I have to believe its satire, but so much effort goes into your posts. I'm stumped.

14 goals in 12 games is a level that Laine has never come close to before, and very likely won't come close to this coming month.
Well he's never had such a favorable Schedule before either. And no hot streak yet this season.

That's a lot of speculation....but OK?

You guys act like Mulletman doesn't have serious predictive powers.

Crosby won the Rocket Richard that year

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threa...this-season-or-is-he-just-in-a-slump.2004337/

Thornton finished that season 4th in scoring and Hart voting, as well as 5th in playoff scoring and Selke voting

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/crosby-is-having-the-worst-start-in-his-career.1966659/

Crosby finished that season 2nd in scoring and 2nd in Hart voting, won the Cup, Conn Smythe, and 8th in playoff scoring

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threa...d-turning-it-into-something-positive.1964885/

"If he could pull off winning the Art Ross, Hart, and Lindsay, or maybe all 3..." This thread was made at the start of the season in which Patrick Kane won all 3.

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threa...ke-sullivan-did-for-crosby-last-year.2178423/

Tavares is having a career year and a resurgence under Doug Weight

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threa...the-league-in-goals-4-years-in-a-row.1946697/

This was started before the season and Ovechkin did just that, despite posters thinking that there is some sort of "reverse jinx"

It's probably time to take note when Mulletman makes a thread about your favorite player.

Wow, this is one of the stranger things I've read on this site.

If that was the intention of the post then well played. If it's serious, then I dunno what to say.

I think Laine has the potential to have a big February, too bad last night's goal did not count in that tally. But he has trained for a 82 game schedule this season, widely reported he didn't skate much this summer. And he may have needed a few months to get up to speed. One thing that may hinder him is, he is playing with a Winger for a Center. But when it comes to Laine, no one should be surprised if he goes on a tear when you have his natural ability to put the puck in the net.

I really don't know where you find the time to spend on something so pointless. You clearly put a lot of effort into this thread, which makes it even more bizarre because it barely even makes sense. I want Laine to do well as much as anyone, but this thread still is just a little premature.

One thing Laine has working against him is the fact that he's only playing 12 games, which really isn't a whole lot in comparison to the 15 or 16 that some teams might be playing.

Well that will keep him fresh. Harder to score when you're getting burned out from playing back to back road games all the time...
