I don’t think you understand. It’s not Arizona signing Hall long term and shopping him. It’s the acquiring team working out the contract details and agreement and AZ simply processes the paperwork. Even if it’s just for a 5th round pick that’s a no brainer for AZ since the alternative is getting absolutely nothing.

In that same vein the only way Hall is going to bypass UFA is if he is SURE he won't be getting a better deal else where, which given UFA's history means the Avs already lost as the deal will be atrocious

Yes but a sign and trade is rare and also still costs more. You pay a 5th for the negotiation rights not an already signed player. Obviously he isn't signing in AZ again.
