Rangers are talking contract extension with Kreider.
Highly expected that Kreider will be traded.

im guessing rangers are talking extension to see what he wants, krieder isn't that old and if he is willing to come back on a decent 3-4 year contract I wouldn't be surprised if rangers extend him

that being said if he wants term or a higher cap hit than the rangers are comfortable with, it helps the rangers and other teams at the deadline to see if krieder is a rental or not

I could see Dallas being heavily interested in this. Offer is gonna be tough though, as we're already without our 2020 2nd and 3rd.

What's so confusing?

You talk about an extension. Either there's little interest on the player part. Or the team is offering too low a number. It seems like they won't be able to agree on an extension both sides are happy with. That then makes it expected he would be traded.

Kreider strikes me as an expensive rental that won't live up to expectations. Generally when you trade for a rental who has played on one team his whole career it doesn't go well.

This reads like they’ll extend him then retain 50% of his contract in a trade.
You cant retain on a contract that hasnt happened yet. So if they sign and extension and retain its only on his current contract. THe next team will have to pay the full extension. Which could be exactly what someone wants. Cant afford him today but will make room for next year.

If Hayes got 7, can't imagine Kreider taking less than that on a deal which will be his last big contract and I don't think the Rangers should pay that kind of money.

Trade him while his value is highest.
Hayes is a center who can play shut down minutes. Not a good comparison. I get its the same dollar amount but Anders Lee however is a good one comparision. Same style. Same draft year.Lee has higher single season total but lower average. Krieder can easily walk into the front office say that name and walk out. The market was clearly set. He got 7 by 7 with a full no move until the last two years. Thats a pure dog shit contract and i would be very upset to see him get that in new york.

Bracing for the reality that this return will be as good or better than a longer-rental Taylor Hall. It's going to happen and then i will blow my brains out.

The NMC is for the first three years to cover the expansion draft.

The last four years he has a 12 team NTC.

would love Kreider on the Sabres but wouldn't trade for him unless he signs an extension with us and I can't see that happening

kreider trade value has diminished, rangs held on to him too long should of got a 1st round pick for him last year, now probably only worth a 2nd or 3rd pick.

Rangers trading him is not good for him. Teams need cap room and how many teams can sign him to a 5 year deal for 7 million or so.......not many. I think he is a good get but the cost to acquire him for most teams is simply hard to meet for a rental and resign him for that amount.
