As far as the contract goes, it's an ELC, so it will be a two way deal. If he is good enough to make the NHL squad, then paying a bit more than league minimum to attract undrafted talent is probably worth it. If he is in Coachella, then he is only making AHL money (82k), so nothing really gambled there.

He got the max signing bonus (95k), which is pretty standard for teams to give out to attract undrafted talent. I think every undrafted free agent that has signed so far this year received the same, Steeves in Florida, Punnett in Dallas, Thiesing with Long Island..... Everyone gets the same deal now for the most part.
