Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 40th goal of the season last night, helping to earn a financial windfall for the New Jersey Devils. The team will earn $3,000,000 as Budweiser has agreed to endorse Kovalchuk as a result of the goal. In addition, the team will get $2,500,000 from Synergy as a result of an agreement relating to the team's 20 point improvement over last season. The team will likely get a $1,000,000 bonus from the Synergy deal, as they are likely to get the 10 more points necessary with 18 games to go.

While Kovlachuk was given a deal for approximately $10,000,000 per before the rollback, he has done a lot to repay the team. In addition to the $3,000,000 the team will make from Budweiser, Kovy already earned the team $2,500,000 from a separate deal with PowerAde. Kovalchuk also earned $200,000 from the team as a result of being named to the All-Star team. Nearly half of his record signing bonus has already been recouped by the team in individual endoresement deals, while Kovalchuk has been a big factor in team achievements also. In addition to the $2,500,000 the team already earned from Synergy, it is on pace to bring in another $3,000,000 at the end of the season. With the team virtually assured of a playoff spot, this could be a very profitable year for the Devils.
