That 1917-1918 Montreal Canadiens team picked in the dispersal draft (of ex-Quebec Bulldogs team players) star winger Joe Malone (who then led the NHL in scoring for the Habs) and a couple of great defensemen.

The Montreal team went a league-leading 10-4 at the start of the season and then had the worst record down the stretch. They lost their last three regular season games, the last one against Toronto 3-5.

If the Vegas Golden Knights beat Toronto on Monday, the team record will be 10-4. :naughty:

And get vengeance 100 NHL seasons later! So, I predict the final score will be Vegas 5 Toronto 3.

Record from 1917-1918?

Geez. Let's not forget that 1917-18 were among the darkest moments of World War I when hundreds of thousands of young men (including Canadians and Americans, of course) were dying in the trenches of Europe.

So, any record from the years of WWI (1914-1918) is silly and distorted by the lack of available young men to play the game.

I have to wonder what healthy young men were actually able to play during those years.

Just finished watching the game... I wasn't going to get up early to watch it. Vegas looked good through two and a half and then took there their foot of the throat and let Ottawa get right back into it. Legace with some big saves and some weak goals, I'll be pleased when Fleury is back. Tuch was a beast, that first goal was brilliant. All in all a good effort but we can't let up against teams, were just not that good.
