What's with the trend of so few exhibition games nowadays? I remember going to games back in the 80s and 90s where there'd be like 6 to 8 exhibition games (3-4 at home, 3-4 on the road). This year Kingston's got a single home exhibition game.

I did read somewhere an explanation for so few ex. games. It was mentioned that more and more NHL teams are playing in early Rookie Tournaments and they keep inviting more and more junior players to fill out the rosters. This leaves the junior clubs with a very short bench for games and they didn't want to risk injury so they cut back on the ex. games.
