Technically it should have been a penalty and no goal. And technically correct is the best kind of correct.

Yeah no shit they missed it. That’s exactly what I said.

So let's start threads about every other missed call too, that'll be fun. Had Cooper not gone on his long dramatic rather confusing rant after the game this world be a nothing play and no one would even have thought twice about it. Kuemper gets hit in the face with a Tampa stick before the first goal, guess Bednar should've had a meltdown about it. Good stuff.

Threads about obvious missed calls on OT goals in the Stanley Cup Finals?

Actually yes.
How do we know prior missed calls didn't lead to OT though? How do we know missed calls in prior rounds didn't impact a series winner? See the problem here? It never ends.

Tampa dominated the first period and only built a 1-0 lead, they then forgot to even show up in OT. But hey, let's blame the officials for not being perfect cause that's easy.

This is boring, circular, and also never-ending. I'm going to go get ready for my evening of going to watch the Avs win the cup. Cheers!

If the refs would actually start to call everything by the book, the league would suffer irreparable damage.

HF illustrates why having reviews for everything doesn't help anything. There is still endless debate over everything, even when people are pouring over the slow motion replays like they are the Zapruder film.

No idea why there is a need for this poll, seeing as a vast majority said the goal should count in the other thread. I guess the rulebook enthusiasts need to have their fun as well.

Let me introduce you to the 1993 semifinals. Or the GWG on the 1999 Stanley Cup. People are still talking about those calls 20, 30 years later.

Yes, if a call leads directly to a game-ending outcome in a high profile playoff game, it's going to be discussed. Why else are we here if not to talk about this stuff?

The refs missed the call, should have been no goal.

However, the real issue is not the refs in this case, too many men calls get missed all the time. The fact that the league automatically reviews all playoffs goals(due to past complaints/controversies) and still limits their reviews to puck fully crossing the line or beating the buzzer is the problem here. Why bother looking at it if you don't at least check to see if the puck left play, was offside, delayed penalty, too many men, played with a high stick (the calls where the play is dead on the spot). Hell they missed a high stick that lead to a goal a few games ago even after reviewing specifically for that. HD cameras everywhere, slomo and they still can't call goals properly - its a joke.

I've watched less hockey this year than I have since I was on active duty and I attended 0 games for the first time in almost 20 years. My love for hockey hasn't diminished, but my tolerance for the NHL is waning. Officiating gets worse every year, prices keep going up and with the betting partnerships I am starting to agree with some of the other posters in this thread that thinks the League is deliberately trying to tilt the ice to get certain outcomes.

If the games don't have the appearance of being fair, then there's literally no point to watching the 'competition' as a spectator.

Ngl Avs seem to be benefiting from a lot of questionable calls these playoffs. It’s almost like the NHL wants them to win! But no, that can’t be right because they are objective. It was clearly offside and now a clear too many men? Both deciding goals?
Remember game 6 and 7 last season .Tampa against the Islanders. Don't see a difference.
