When Schultz signed with the Oiler's we were all very happy. We got chosen over 29 other markets. I remember Bob Mckenize saying adding Schultz to our team was like adding another 1st round blue chipper. We have had Schultz for a few seasons now and he has posted the following,

GP-141
G-21
A-48
P- 69
+/- minus 43
PIM 28

I honestly think Schultz is over rated. If he expects a big pay day this off season I hope to hell he wakes up. He is absolutely terrible defensively. I have never seen an NHL defenseman this bad. We all use to hack on MA Bergeron but he was miles ahead of Schultz defensively. (he actually had a big shot on the PP too)

Schultz was supposed to help out our PP. Well what does he really do on it? I know he never hits the net. I know he causes a lot of turnovers by making terrible reads with the puck. I know he doesn't have a heavy shot. He does however have a sneaky wrist shot in which other teams have watched video and now he never gets a chance to sneak in and use it.

Schultz also has 28 penalty minutes in his career as a defense man. This is almost impossible. D-men have to get dirty and clear the front of the net. Many of you may say well Lidstrom wasn't dirty and mean and look how well he did. They are completely different players.

I honestly think Schultz has caused the Oiler's more losses than wins since he has been here. I am getting tired of watching his same old mistakes game in game out.

The Oilers's should really get on the phones and shop this guy. Philly needs d-men. A lot of teams need d-men. He could return a C or better defensively sounded d-man.

I would rather Petry play on the #1 PP unit. I am sick of short handed goals against and at least Petry is versatile enough to make a pass or take a slap shot.

There are lots of players who put up big numbers in the AHL or KHL. Its nothing against Schultz and these things happen (Andy Delmore, Kevin Dallman) but maybe he isn't an NHL defenseman?

Not to mention his body language is embarrassing.

I think it's best if we move on from this guy.

As bad as he's been, we can afford to be a bit more patient with him.
Unless he wants 10m a year. Then **** him.
Or unless we can make a trade that improves the team, then **** him again.

If he cared and gave as much effort in the defensive zone as he does sneaking in from the point in the offensive zone, he'd be good. His lackadaisical and lazy efforts in the dzone really irritate me.

He's what, 24 years old? WYSIWYG.

If he was Karlsson or even poor man's Karlsson, you'd forgive the defensive lapses, but he's not.

Part of the problem though is how bad our centers and D core are.

If you had Schultz as a 3/4 d-man with some PP time, it would probably work, but they're going to throw $6m at this guy, which is idiotic.

I hate having him on the 1st PP. He rarely hits the net when he shoots and he causes a lot of odd man rushes in all situations.

Why would it be better to have Marincin or Klefbom playing in all situations? They're much more responsible in all situations.

Justin Schultz is still convinced that he's full of potential and he thinks that he can just ignore the team concept of the game and get ahead by using a little extra bit of selfishness and willpower. Well it doesn't work that way.

I think it's funny how 5 games into the season people were calling into CHED saying "trade this loser" and both of the guys on CHED were saying "There isn't a team in the NHL that wouldn't want to have Justin Schultz on their team."

While after the game VS Phoenix they stopped defending him. When people call in complaining about Justin Schultz's poor play their go to response is something along the lines of "well, other people who've called in have suggested traded him. Who knows. It might in Edmonton's best interest."

If Justin Schultz is still owned by the Oilers at the draft, I'd try hard to get a 3rd rounder for him from a team in East next year. That or someone who might be a bit of an upgrade on Aulie aka a 7th d-man.

What I don't understand is that he just doesn't seem to have the same drive that he had before he came to the NHL. I haven't seen any of the same moves out of him that his pre-NHL youtube videos touted (not that I'm expecting constant youtube highlights of course), but he just doesn't seem like the same player.

2 man advantage, JS shoots the puck way wide from a great scoring chance and puck careens all the way around the boards all the way down the ice. Essentially clearing the puck for the Nucks and killing at least 20secs off of a 2 man advantage.

Secs later on the same PP is seen in own zone waiting for line change with one hand on stick looking lackadaisical while being booed. Takes further time off clock but off course doesn't move puck well anyway.

The whole game with the same painted on half grin like he's on a cover of Mad Magazine..possibly thinking "I'll play like **** and smile about my contract while doing it"

He got paid. Another bit of contractual entitlement.

A young player out of college and going to frat house and team parties and living on a dime gets 10M bucks thrown at him how do you think he's going to behave? Number one priority is not getting hurt, injured, maimed that would take the fun out of post game and off day revelry.

With the group this player hangs with and his innocent face he's going to get a lot of attention out clubbing. I can't say I even entirely blame him for that probably adding some distraction. Oilers, even losing Oilers are still rockstars in Edmonton. Its kids in candy shop entitlement with no expectation. With "I bagged an Oiler last night" being the biggest notch on a lipstick case game going on in town for young nubile sorts..

I would love nothing more than for Schultz to prove me wrong, but I do not like where things are headed .. He's looked worse this year defensively, while providing minimal offence. On top of that MacT gave him Golden Boy status in the organization which scares the F out of me.

Look at what happened to a similar highly touted offensive player in Del Zotto .. He continued to play an awful defensive game with marginal offense and almost found himself bounced out of the league.

While we're at it how the #@!% is our PP so awful?? When Nuge was a 3.5 lb toddler he had our PP top 5 in the league! Eakins or no Eakins I'll never understand this (or I guess Ramsay now?)!

Lots of talent, remarkable skater and good offensive instinct. But lacks heart and hustle. Several times last night he absolutely gave up on defense. He deserves to be benched, as do several others. He absolutely needs to be taken off the 1st PP unit, he continues to serve up 2 on 1's and break aways and hasn't shown that he can learn from the mistakes. Make him a forward, he is better suited for it.

6M No way he's getting 6M.

Recently media is talking about the cap slowing down because of the recent weakness in the Canadian dollar.

Making 3.675M. It's gonna cost what? 4M to quality him? If we don't match that we're getting a 2nd rounder, I think. I think the cap is still too high for it to be a 1st and 3rd round pick.

If we get offered a 2nd round pick for him, we're taking it. nobody is going to steal Justin Schultz from the Edmonton Oilers. Nobody is that crazy. That makes as much sense as hiring Dallas Eakins as a head coach.

Wouldn't it be better to just have Yakupov and Marincin on the back end on the points on the 1st PP? Tell Marincin to watch his rear and tell Yakupov to shoot from the point hard and often.

2 goals and a breakaway last night were solely because of his limited hockey IQ and tunnel vision. All 3 chances were interceptions from their zone with an odd man rush coming the other way. All 3 he was completely blind to the rushing forward, and even skated towards a player who didn't and wasnt going to receive the puck leading to a 2-1 scrivens way.
He is a liability, literally helping the opposing team to win each night. He sits for 5, replace with marcincin, I bet our g/a gets cut in half at least. The #1 defencemen is the quarterback, the wall, the carry of the home zone. Ours is a PP specialist that is no better than Brad Hunt defensively. He has shown his attitude outside the rink, snuffing an entire franchise, and taking almost all the way to training camp to bridge a deal.
If MacT says character is the most important check on his list, then he may want to rethink his position on Justin.
Trade him for a bag of pucks, he is the cancer of this team

I'd be willing to see them try this before trading him.

there is nothing positive on the PP that justin schultz does that Petry cant do better. we need to dump schultz and his weak will and trade ference and his psuedo-leadership and let Marincin and Klefbom play the rest of the season.

I don't think Yak, other than a much heavier shot, would fair much better. Marincin might be the better choice. I think Yak would take too many chances for offence, similar to Schultz. We need a hard shot, good passer but smart enough defensively to realize when he needs to bail out on the play.

Let's wait until Eakins is fired to really judge him. With a coach who understands that he's not a top pairing defenseman maybe he won't look so useless cause he looked like that good offensive guy with Kreuger.

I think I'm coming to the realization that he's not part of the core of this team going forward anymore.

That list for me has pretty much shrunk to Hall and RNH.

Justin can go join Yakupov, Kelfbom, and Marincin in the pray to god but I'm not putting any money on it department.

Leaves Nurse and Draisitl in the I still have hope for pile.

The rest of the team is pretty much interchangeable in my eyes.
