The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed forward Justin Bailey to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Bailey (6’3″, 190 lbs., 7/1/95) is playing in his third season with the Kitchener Rangers (OHL) and currently leads the team in scoring with 18 points (9+9) through 13 games played. In 124 career OHL games, Bailey has recorded 97 points (51+46) and 68 penalty minutes.

The Buffalo native was selected by the Sabres in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to playing in the OHL, Bailey played in the USHL and the Buffalo Regals organization.

There's not a lot of things Bailey can't do. Hard not to be excited about him and the way he's developing.

In fact, if he were signed after January 1st, his ELC would not slide this year. Starting March 1, he would have been eligible to sign a contract starting during the 2015-2016 season, however.

So it was either sign him before January 1st or sign him after March 1st, otherwise his ELC would expire in 2017 rather than 2018

Glad things are falling into place for him. Clearly he's getting more out of his toolset this year in Kitchener, putting it together. Even with the seeming CHL bias by USA Hockey, he's got to be on the map for the WJC U-20 team.
