The Zibby-trade was just horrendous, now he is a superstar in his prime.
Brassard was not the better player when the trade happend.

It hurts when Dorion trades away our best players for nothing. Brann is not even an NHL-player yet.

I'd have the Matt Murray acquisition and signing on the list of good things Dorion has done and yes I'm serious. It's going to prove to be a solid move.

it’s weird you say that because Murray won his first Cup after only playing 13 regular season games

Zib was younger and better at the time of trade.

No he was not, he played a fairly blah game and was below average defensively. Brassard was a proven playoff monster and a higher regular season producer.
You have a imaginary memory of what went down fueled by hindsight.

Brassard had one good playoff year which gave him a reputation he was living off for the rest of his career. He was already starting the decline before we traded for him.

4 points in 5 games the year before we traded for him 16 in 19 the year before 12 in 23 the year before that(his worst year) and 12 in 12 the year before that.
You are wrong

Would've gone with Zibby but at least we have Gus to show for it while Brannstrom is going to get traded for anoher Zack Sanford.
1) Stone trade
2) Zibanejad trade
3) Duchene trade
4) Murray trade
5) Leting Duclair walk for nothing/Trading Hoffman for nothing

Brassard
Duchene
don't really haev a problem with the Duchene deal. The context matters though. We traded for him then decided that are rebuild was needed 4 months later.

Brassard was bad from the start and was seen as a 2nd/3rd liner at the time. I think for him the valuation is wrong.

This trade is a perfect example of what can go wrong when you emphasize the importance of a very small sample of games. The fact that they’re of particular importance to the team doesn’t make performance in those games any stickier than a sample of regular season games.

Harmless narratives for the fans/media, but if your GM is paying premiums for past playoff performances you’re going to have a bad time.

this is not really true

The dude put up 50-60 points on NYR before we traded for him AND also was good in the playoffs

not really true. he put up 45 pts - 60 pts - 58 points the three years before we traded for him and he was considered in his prime. I know that a lot of ppl here were talking about his decline though.

I wouldn't say it is a small sample size but Zibby was def a big loss
