I think it is very close between those two, but I actually really like ASP. I think his ceiling is higher, and think that he is more likely to hit it, so I voted for that upside. I voted him over Kasper for the same reason, and would also have voted Wallinder before Kasper. I'm also fine with being proven wrong, just my perspective on how things are as they sit right now.

I'll agree to disagree. I've posted my thoughts on the ASP pick elsewhere on the board so my position is pretty well known. To me, ASP is a lot more risk than reward considering his profile is almost identical to several other small Swedish defensemen that were just OK skaters.

If ASP turns into Cale Makar 2.0 like some people here think, then I'll eat a heaping helping of crow. But from what I've seen of the guy in my 20+ viewings...we might only get Shayne Gostisbehere 2.0 if we're lucky.

I think that's fair, but I also wouldn't be all that upset if ASP turns out to be a similar player to Shayne Gostisbehere.

I wouldn't be mad at that but I most certainly don't think that player is more valuable than what Wallinder will become as a #3/#4 2-way guy that can play 22 minutes a night in all situations.

I also don't think that's more valuable than what Kasper and Danielson are looking poised to become as solid top 6 centers that can play in all situations.

The players that can play in all situations are almost always more valuable than the specialists that need sheltering and more favorable deployment.

Just basing this on who has gotten votes so far... but Soderblom potentially being deemed our 10th best prospect really puts into perspective how stocked the cupboard is.

#4 is Wallinder for me. The more he has to cook in the non-NHL pro leagues the more he'll be poised to hit the ground running in the NHL when he does arrive, ala Seider. Not to that level per se, just in terms of being able to step in and not look like a rookie.
I'm guessing Soderblom will go before 10, but he's always such an interesting guy on these boards. Seems like when we actually see him play (in-season, during WJC, etc.), he gets over-hyped and is a top 3-5 prospect. Then, every offseason, we give him no credit because we haven't seen him in a while and he falls to around 10. He realistically should be in between, but it always feels like he has crazy swings.

I go Mazur here. Love his game and think his IQ and well rounded game carries him just like Bert. (And I'm STILL a bit scarred by Sproul, Ouellet, Marchenko, Backman, etc for non blue chip defensive prospects)

Went with Wallinder, but contrary to others, I actually think ASP has the higher floor, lower ceiling. He already possesses tools to QB a pro level power play and create offense. His vision, quickness, creativity, hands, and shot are almost NHL ready as they stand. I think that raises his floor pretty high. His ceiling will be capped by size and straight line speed.

Went ASP. Close between him, Wallinder, Cossa and Mazur though.

I am voting by ceiling and to me ASP has a higher ceiling than WW. I see WW as a #4 guy that doesn't excel at anything but is good at everything. I see ASP as a 3-4 who runs a top PP but needs a good defensive partner to cover for him at ES. I think what ASP's ceiling, to me, is higher than what WW's is but they both seem to top out as middle pair guys.

No , but Wallinder is much older. Wallinder is more NHL ready than ASM, but I just think ASM should be our #3 best prospect
