GMs have little incentive to be truthful with the public, but "... under any circumstances" is very definitive phrasing. Stamkos has an NMC; he's in total control anyway. I take this at face value.

A pretty shallow forward rental market could have used him.
No chance they even thought about trading him.

The high end forward market is always shallow because most good forwards stay with their teams forever, or get traded for other good forwards.

The forward market as a whole is never as shallow as you think.

Does he suck now or something? Why is there always so much talk about trading this guy

He’s not the player he once was and is pretty much a power play specialist at this point; additionally his deal is up this summer, the Lightning don’t have the cap space to offer him even the same salary he’s making now, and the team is having a down year and is far from a lock to make the playoffs. But he’s still a PPG scorer and the beloved team captain and the team is still in playoff position at the moment, so unless they completely fall apart between now and the deadline I’m sure BriseBois wants to keep him for one last playoff run and then do his best to convince Stammer to take a discount to finish his career in Tampa.

Don’t think i’ve ever seen much of trade talk about him prior to this season, and it all started because he felt ”dissapointed” because there were no talks about extension in the summer despite him wanting to have it done before the season.

He is now mostly a excellent PPG complimentary winger but not the play driving center he once was.

In terms of rentals. There's not a lot of room for movement of the supply. Pittsburgh (Guentzel) and New Jersey (Toffoli) stumbling would change things. Otherwise, Lindholm is on a tier by himself. Next level down includes Tarasenko, Monahan, Henrique. Pretty blah.

Last year, there was Horvat and O'Reilly. Kane and Tarasenko were more exciting, the first time becoming available for trade. Bertuzzi and Barbashev were very interesting sandpaper wingers.

Can't stand the guy, but he should retire a Bolt. Look forward to the "see Stamkos in the rafters?" ads for the jersey retirement,

I never expected him to leave at the deadline, but I do think he goes elsewhere in the summer. Would love if my Canes could bring him in on a similar deal to Pavelski in Dallas.

As a Panther fan? I think he’s a douchebag, but that’s because he has a killer instinct that I was a few former Panthers had. I’m sure he’s a great guy, he’s just a lifetime Bolt.

Ahh ok - I thought you meant as a person. I get it now. lol

At this point I'd be astonished if he was.

Career Bolt with plenty of SC rings, nothing to prove, nothing to chase.

Let him retire on his own terms & hang his number up in Tampa's rafters.

Franchise player can't really trade him.

I get the rivalry, but Stammer is one of the most respected players in the league. It’s one thing to dislike an opposing player because he beats you but that’s no reason to call someone a douchbag without legitimate justification, especially when it’s a genuinely good person like Stamkos.
