He was number 25 in the NHL but when we traded for Smithson he lost that number, which I thought was strange. So now he is number 35, I reckon he will change back to 25 next season if Smithson is not re-signed.

i got his autograph one time and i noticed one training camp how he went from 35 to 25, and i asked him about it and he said that 25 was his favorite number or something along the lines of that. he wore 25 here and in sweden too. thats his number of choice if its available. but even with smithson, couldnt smithson just change his number? theres been plenty of times where someones came in and the player that was already here changed the number instead? kulikov started as 43, then weaver came and he switched to 7.

Not strange at all. Veteran players have the first dibs for a number, and it's not than uncommon for a young player to give up a number for a veteran guy if he's worn that for a long time during his career. Smithson is a proven veteran and wore #25 with Preds for ages.
