Gudbranson sucks.

He’s had a few good years where he’s been used strictly as a bottom pairing defenseman. Last year being one of them.

But he’s also a former 3rd overall pick in his draft and has that helping pull him the kind of contract he just got. I’m pretty sure he’s never had a year as good as Siegenthaler just had in his career. Definitely not while playing over 20 minutes a game.

siegenthaler's track record is smaller than bratt's and def. d aren't the highest paid players in the nhl. but the contract has steal potential for the devils.

So the only RFAs that really impact anything next offseason are now Sharangovich and Blackwood. Massive UFA slate in 2023 with Severson, Graves, Tatar, Johnsson, Haula and Bernier (if he still counts). I could see every UFA walking.

I have no idea why Siegs would sign this deal, but this is fantastic value for the Devils.

He just needs to be a 4/5D for the deal to be worth it. Last season, he was providing top-pair value. And he's only locked up for his prime years and no longer. Wow.
