Joel Ward mentored a 12 year old, at risk boy when he played for the Nashville Predators.

When he moved on to Washington, his charge was not abandoned.

The entire Nashville Predators organization rallied around him, giving the boy some support and structure.

He's now 18, and still helped by the organization, and helps the organization.

(Ward still supports him with tuition to private HS)

Awesome story.

Ward (and P. Martin) are two vets I'm really glad DW signed.

Reminds of when the Sharks landed Ricci and Suter back in the late 90s. Good role models for our youth.

I love reading stories about players who use the money they get to help out the community. It shows them with priorties straight (Even though a nice car is great too. ;) ).

I was pretty damn excited when we first signed Ward, but he's quickly ascending to legendary status to me, and he hasn't even played, what, 10 games with the Sharks? Dude is just so damn likeable, does so much good in the community, and plays hockey the way it should be played. Him and Burns, between their on-ice play and off-ice personalities, are far and away my favorite Sharks in a long time.
