From what I remember, Larry Robinson was actually the person that Bergevin had in mind. However he needed a little time to make up his mind and Bergevin want willing to wait, and so he hired JJ.
The reality is that any shortcomings of the team are on the head coach, not the assistant. I dont remember a time on HF boards where a certain assistant coach would get grilled, although muller used to get a lot of positive feedback for his work as an assistant.
