No, he didn't match expectations. He was billed as mentioned above but I recall his agent making a statement that he was "as physical as Eric Lindros." He was nowhere near that comparison.

When the Flyers played the Panthers, the game in which he was injured, there was a headline in the Miami-area newspaper that said something akin to "Mr. Invisible has been sighted." There was that much hype. He was once Panthers' property and refused to play there. As I mentioned elsewhere, he came to the Flyers based on Roman Cechmanek being a teammate.

Rumor had it that Dopita was reluctant to also play for the Panthers because their financial situation wasn't sound and his Czech team (or one of them) had undergone financial woes, too. IIRC, His wife was close to Cechmanek's family and she had a legal background. There was much ballyhoo that failed to meet expectations.
