A change of scenery is needed. He's a very good goalie when healthy. Just not a game changer of the same ilk as Mrazek. Going to a team with a much better defense could help as well. Need to get a cheap backup or promote from within.

That doesn't mean Holland will trade him.

Lol, Howard is exhibit A of how these long term contracts are terrible. And most of us called it when he signed it.

Let me clear my throat and do my best Holland impression. 'In today's NHL you need two goalies to win, look at every team in the playoffs'.

Howard, Ericsson, Abdelkader, Samuelsson, Cleary twice... that's a lot of deals fans have (rightly) nearly unanimously hated since the minute they were announced the last few years. I doubt another franchise has more recently. This is also ignoring other bad deals that either inspired optimism or at least a split in opinions initially.

No team should take on Howard's deal, but if we retain 25-50% it's movable. Just more deadweight on the cap for a few years...

there is a god :nod::handclap::yo::)

Mrazek is so much better, he deserves Howard's money.
Mrazek deserves Howard's money when he proves he can be a #1 goaltender.

Of course Jimmy is going to be open to be traded. He probably realizes just like all of us that Mrazek is the future and is going to get every chance to be the #1. Jimmy is a goalie that should be playing a big workload. There are lots of teams where he could step in and play 60+ games and do a solid job.

Not sure if we should trade him this offseason. If we could find a suitable back-up then maybe. His salary isn't a huge problem. Worst case we have to retain some of it.

I wonder who might be interested in him? Toronto? Babcock might enjoy having someone he is familiar with in net, though he turned to Mrazek before he left. Calgary? Carolina? Winnipeg?

Howard hasn't proven capable of being a #1 goaltender the past three seasons. A lot of that falls on the Wings vomit inducing blue line, but Howard has not looked good either.

Wings are retaining salary and going to have to give up a pick/prospect to unload his contract.

The sooner he is traded the better. The Wings blue line is only going to get worse and the loss of Datsyuk's puck possession will only mean more time spent in the Wings zone.

Howard just falls and never gets back up right away. Mrazek falls and immediately gets back into position. Once Howard is out of position it's an automatic goal. He's complete dog ****, I'll be saying my prayers till July 1st.

Exactly. 49 starts out of which the last 10 or so were terrible. You can't have a #1 goalie that falls apart after 40 games. No matter how good he is in those first 40 games. So far he has not proven he can be more than part of 1A/1B tandem.

This was also his first full season with the team where he was utilized as a starter. I'd say he did very well.
