More likely he's making the point that this wasn't a guy who just showed up to collect paychecks, he actually worked a real job.

I think the fact that two different people are sharing whatever his responsibilities were would support your opinion.

Again, not agreeing with O-dog or his need to get involved in this, but calling "executive VP and assistant GM" a "real job" is a huge stretch. Looks really good on a business card, no doubt, but how much real responsibility for anything going on at any level of the Carolina Hurricanes organization ended up at Jason Karmanos's feet? I would guess very, very little, if any at all.

From the chatter on this board it would appear that he was involved in contract negotiations including O'Neill's own arbitration hearing. Beyond that I have no idea, maybe he brewed a mean cup of coffee every morning.
