STREIT, COLAIACOVO OUT; TRIO RECALLED
Prior to the Flyers-Sharks matinee at the Wells Fargo Center, Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced the following injury update and transactions.

Defensemen Carlo Colaiacovo and Mark Streit will not play today due to flu-like symptoms.

Defensemen Oliver Lauridsen and Mark Alt, and forward Jason Akeson have been recalled by the Flyers under emergency conditions. Alt will wear jersey No. 39, while Lauridsen will wear No. 38.

Alt will make his Flyers and NHL debut, making him the sixth player in the Flyers line-up to make their NHL debut (Bellemare, Cousins, Gostisbehere, Straka & Zepp) this season.

He has seven points (1g-6a) in 33 games for Lehigh Valley this season, his second with the Phantoms, after posting four goals and 22 assists for 26 points in his rookie campaign in 2013-14. The Flyers acquired his rights from Carolina on January 13, 2013 and signed him to an entry-level contract in April of 2013.

Lauridsen was recalled earlier in the season (Jan. 19) but did not play. This would be his first game of the season and first since the 2012-13 season, when he recorded two goals and an assist in 15 games.

The 6-6, 220-lb defenseman is one of two players to appear in all 64 games for the Phantoms this season, recording three goals, three assists and 128 PIM.

Akeson re-joins the Flyers after appearing in the first 12 games of the season, going scoreless. He is third on the Phantoms in scoring with 42 points in 46 games, including 20 goals and 22 assists.

Little over an hour drive from Allentown to Philly. Nice having the AHL team so close to the big club.

Carlo had a pretty good run there. Remember when we were told that he'd be lucky to play 5 games without getting hurt?

Think about how that would look back when we were at the beginning of this season, before MDZ and Schultz proved to not be terrible...:laugh::laugh:

We would of looked worst than Buffalo's whole franchise this year.

Akeson's the 13th forward. The other two need to play so getting top minutes down there is more important than sitting in the pressbox or getting bottom minutes up here.

Crossed my mind, but I was kinda hoping Akson falls in that category too. Som bum like Rosehill should be the 13th man. Well, here's hoping Vinny sits this one out.

I think so too. He's not good enough to play in the NHL full time and I'm sure he doesn't want to be in the AHL forever.

Pretty much, he doesn't really have a clear role at the NHL level making him a tweener. He's not good enough to elevate the play of players at the bottom of the lineup & he's not good enough to justify playing at the top of the lineup.

Lauridsen I think goes home. Akeson I'm not so sure. If he gets into games and has a good stretch, someone will give him a chance. I'm sure teams are aware that Berube is a moron and didn't know how to use him.

Laughton and Straka need to stay in the AHL. They should be trying to work value for Akeson. Akeson shouldn't be any less desired than Tye McGinn.
