He'll probably be benched for an additional 2 weeks as punishment for Mez's play while he's injured.

Haha, was gonna post something similar.

This sucks, Gus has been good for us and the injury means Mez has to play. Helpfully Grossmann isn't still out tomorrow cause we'll be stuck with a Mez-Gill pairing again.

Yeah can we call up Alt please? We know what Mez and Gill offer and it's not much. At least give someone younger an chance to see what they got.

****.

Though glad it is not worse. It could have been.

He has been great for us this year.

Didn't he have a reported sprained leg last year too?
But when it all came down Homer had to admit he had a broken foot and he missed like almost 5 weeks instead of two....

He has been solid overall so far this season and really good in some games... i hope he can come back soon and pick up where he left.

As lousy as the Mez/Luke pairing has been I still hope they don't rush Gus. I'd hate to see him get drilled and reinjure himself.

January 6:

Erik Gustafsson has been skating on his own recently as part of his rehab for a sprained left knee.

On Monday, the Flyers’ 25-year-old defenseman rejoined teammates for the first time for a full practice session at Skate Zone.

There’s a slight possibility he could be cleared to return for Sunday’s game in New York against the Rangers.

Gustafsson was injured Dec. 21 during a 6-3 loss in Columbus. He has been out exactly two weeks, which was the initial time frame for his recovery.

“This was the first time [practice] I really put something into it,” Gustafsson said. “I felt pretty good. As practice went on, I felt better and better. It warms up the ligament a bit. I get more of a push at the end.”

That said, he feels he is still perhaps 15 percent under where he needs to be. General manager Paul Holmgren said over the weekend Gustafsson might need another seven days of rehab.

“I think that’s pretty accurate,” Gustafsson said. “I haven’t really followed the schedule. I take it day by day, honestly. The last two days, I’ve taken huge steps.”
