My first try at a mock after the initial lottery drawing, will try and include projection or outlook for each first-round pick. Ran a lottery sim to determine #1 pick.
#1. select Alexis Lafreniere, LW, Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL)
Outlook: Potential top-line winger who can drive a line and contribute ~90 points a season; will most likely make immediate NHL impact
#2. select Quinton Byfield, C, Sudbury Wolves (OHL)
Outlook: Elite two-way centre with full toolbox, dominating frame and 80-90 point potential; high degree of variance but emerging talent around him in LA and key veterans like Kopitar could be crucial
#3. (SJS) select Tim Stutzle, C/LW, Adler Mannheim (DEL)
Outlook: First-line combo forward with an elite transition and PP game and enough defensive chops to handle centre duties in the NHL; among the best playmaking vision in the draft class
#4. select Marco Rossi, C, Ottawa 67's (OHL)
Outlook: A lot of noise to connect Perfetti and Detroit here, but Rossi's dynamic two-way abilities and puckhandling abilities in the offensive zone give Detroit a true blue-chip centre prospect. Potential 60-80 point centre with significant contribution on the PP
#5. select Jamie Drysdale, D, Erie Otters (OHL)
Outlook: Offensively-slanted top pairing defender, could be an elite PP QB and is capable of contributing on PK and shutdown role late in games thanks to smooth skating, elite agility
#6. select Lucas Raymond, RW, Frolunda (SHL)
Outlook: Dominating offensive force; elite playmaker and skater who can make plays at top speed; potential 30-goal scorer with the creativity to become a offensive zone entry and transition threat
#7. select Jake Sanderson, D, USNTDP U18 (USHL)
Outlook: Late riser thanks to explosive second half and showing out against elite competition, looks to be a future #2-3 shutdown type with some offensive flair thanks to smooth skating and physical edge on defense
#8. select Anton Lundell, C, HIFK (Liiga)
Outlook: Physical, mature two-way forward with great possession stats and strong offensive awareness. Solid hands for his size could be quick to the NHL thanks to contributions in all situations
#9. select Alexander Holtz, RW, Djugardens (SHL)
Outlook: A true offensive threat with good puck skills and an elite shot. Isn't much of a needle-mover on the defensive end, but he's an outside shooting threat and potential 30-40 goal scorer who could use some seasoning in his two-way game before reaching the NHL
#10. select Yaroslav Askarov, G, SKA St. Petersburg (VHL)
Outlook: One of the most impressive U18 resumes for a G in history, Askarov has insane lateral quickness and an impressive glove hand. Projecting young goalies is tough, but he looks like a lock to be at least a decent NHL starter with the potential for a lot more
#11. select Cole Perfetti, C/RW, Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
Outlook: One of the most gifted playmakers in the draft, Perfetti's puck skills and OHL production earmark him for a higher draft slot. However, questions about his foot speed and ability to stick at C persist. Best case scenario, huge impact on the PP and and potential 80 point forward
#12. select Seth Jarvis, RW, Portland Winterhawks (WHL)
Outlook: Jarvis exploded in the second half, using his great stickhandling and vision to become an all-around offensive threat. Shifty skater whose aggressiveness and willingness to go to high-danger areas belies his slight frame and could make him a strong complement as a top-line winger
#13. select Noel Gunler, RW, Lulea (SHL)
Outlook: Explosive scorer whose lack of exposure at Hlinka, WJC may have dropped his stock. Big-bodied winger with above-average speed and a wicked release. Could be a strong supporting scorer in the top-six, with 30 goal potential at his peak
#14. select Rodion Amirov, LW, Salavat Ufa (KHL)
Outlook: Well-rounded winger who can adapt his game to excel in a skill-based role or a checking one. Plays a fast-paced, effective offensive game without sacrificing much defensive responsibility. Flashes explosive skating ability and acceleration in open ice but can outmuscle opponents along the boards. Relatively safe bet to be an effective top-six winger
#15. select Jack Quinn, RW, Ottawa 67's (OHL)
Outlook: Quinn opened eyes playing wingman on one of the CHL's most effective power plays and led draft-eligibles in goals despite playing away from Marco Rossi at even strength. Relatively polished defensive skills, a wicked shot, and an uncanny knack for finding soft ice in high-danger areas; tough to project as a late birthday, but shows the tools needed to challenge 30 goals
#16. select Dawson Mercer, RW, Chicoutimi Sagueneens (QMJHL)
Outlook: Outstanding puckhandling abilities allow him to get to high-danger areas and drive offense. Average vision, more of a shoot-first player who could be an excellent complementary player on a scoring line due to his tenacity on the puck and finishing ability in traffic
#17. (VAN) select Mavrik Bourque, C, Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL)

Inconsistent effort in his own zone, could become an elite winger with his ability in transition and on zone entries
#18. select Dylan Holloway, LW, University of Wisconsin (NCAA)
