Good for Luypen. I can't say I'm expecting much but if he can be a spark plug bottom-6 forward in 2-3 years, that's a win.

18 points in 64 games during his draft year

"over achieves" yeah okay...

He was a 9th round pick in his bantam draft. He's the *only* player picked in that round -- who wasn't an NCAA commit -- that went on to play in the WHL and he did so on a WHL team that is perennially strong. He's also one of only 3 players from his round in his WHL bantam draft that went on to be drafted into the NHL. The other two were NCAA commits Josh Doan and Carter Savoie.

So yeah, I'd say just getting to the WHL and putting up 18 points in 64 games in his NHL draft year was an overachievement. Following that up with 29 points in 23 games his D+1 season and getting drafted into the NHL was also an overachievement.

1. Put it into context...I doubt Luypen got top 3 line usage in his drFt year...less opportunity Then compared to more senior guys or featuredxstars Edmonton had that year...So looking at numbers without context to roles and featured top minutes is idiocy.

2.So this past sesdon hexwaz 5th in Oik Kibgs scoring points despite use only as 3C and sometimes 2C ...2 of tge 4 ahead if him were 1 draft class older than hom......Hex as tied in short handed goals (3) with 2 of thec4 players ahead of him in scoringboverall...He was 1st ...betterxthan all 4 above him in scoring in terms of face-off wins (53.3%)..

Pretty good all round okater with soeed given his role which still wss not a featured top line role ...

The 1 caveat about hom us size....will he bexanotger small guy who gets pushed around in board and puck battkles at the NHL level?
Will he be able to pkay C agaibsnt bigger stronger NHL guys or will they have to move him to wing where smaller players with speedcan survive without the difficulties smaller centers have defending opposing players getting to the set area...
Another area of concern may be a lack of feustiness ...if smaller guys have thatcelement it heloscthem survive in the NHL...ifvyou only are fast and skilled but smaller then you might get pushedxaroubd t oo much and your ability to translate effectiveness to an NHK level diminishes Unless you are so exceptional thatcdespitecyourcsize you are the best player on your team and deserve top line minutes.

Lutoen is never going to get top line minutes..

Best we can hope for is 3rd liner IF he can stick.
Maybe 3C or a3 W who can also take draws.
Or 4C for draws and pk ...
Look ...somev7th rounders do becone good NHLers with long careers...maybe he can too.

So do not knock hom because he was ONLY a 7th rounser .

He will get a chance to win a spot...but probably starts a year in Rockford.....besides if hevs good enough to take a job from an incumbent vet, do we even want such an improvement that jeopardizes the Tank,

Cabnotcakkiw that to gapoen...So no matter how many yutescinoress at rookie games vs.Minn and at main camps conibg up ,tgere us no need to "rush" the in to replace ineffective vets....notcwhen tge Plan is to try to Tank.
