What a pain in the ass that line was

just a long, strong, two-way career, not easy for a winger sometimes especially on teams all over the spectrum of ability, but the dude always just quietly went about his business, being a big fundamental, winger version of diet Kopitar

Yeah he stated that would be his plan quite awhile ago, to retire from the NHL and spend the end of his playing days back home.

While not a physical or aggressive player, Silf deserves a lot of credit for his character. From about year two in Anaheim when he matured into a defensive whiz, his dependability has been through the roof. Even when hip injuries sapped his skating ability, he was just such a smart defensive presence. Plus he always stepped up big offensively in the playoffs in his prime years, despite being part of the team's key defensive matchup line. Then we find out that the guy played through tremendous pain for almost two full seasons before finally caving to have surgery when the Ducks started into a rebuild phase. A quiet and understated leader who will be fondly remembered.

It has been rumoured for a while that he will (and he has been quite open with that he would like to) return to his hometown club of Brynäs, regardless of if they play in the HA (second division) or SHL (first division).

Would have likely made for a solid rental for a contender, but his cap hit was just too high for those teams to work in.

His father played for Brynas team too, for 11 seasons. I always have respect for the Swedish players who don't lose sight of where they come from. Seems to happen fairly often, where these guys who've earned millions, go back to their home towns.

He's from a small city of just under 100k. Markstrom, Lindholm, Backstrom, and Janrkrok are all from the same small city.

This is what I was thinking too.

Good on the guy in whatever he decides. Always left you wanting more, but has had a pretty good career.
