honestly it doesn't even appear as he has all the tools these days, he's a completely different player than he was in his draft year, just hasn't been the same since shoulder surgery.

Absolutely. He would 100% fall out of the first round with a draft re-do.

Doesn't matter if the brain isn't connected to the shoulder. He used to be able to take idiotic shots from anywhere and score on a good number just because of how heavy his shot was. Without that shot, he has to pick his spots better...but he just does not have the sense.

The most troubling part of this tournament for Jake is that he made maybe a dozen tape to tape passes. Every second time he touched the puck a promising play just died on his stick.

Hes dumb hockey wise. Put it this way Kassian has more hockey sense than Virtanen.

Remember when Canucks fans were calling the Sedins busts at 22-23 years old?

Virtanen was already very limited in terms of IQ and creativity, but it really looks like the little he DID have has been completely ripped out after basically not touching the puck this year.

I feel bad for him seems like a great kid, but the slashing penalty was an awful one. Hopefully he can take it on the chin and keep working hard and develop.

Wow... Each day that goes by Nylander looks like a better and better pick. And the thing is, literally everyone except Benning knew that. The Isles almost picked him at #5. It's incredibly stupid.

Omg people.Give the kid a break. The goaltending sucked the whole tournament and Dave Lowery sucks as a coach.Time,,give the kid some time.Im not giving up on him i still think he is going to be a good one for us.

You can't teach hockey iq. No amount of time is going to make this a smart player.

It's not about teaching. Everyone gets smarter in a lot of areas as they get older and more experienced.

Could've been Nylander or Ehlers whom I was 100% sure would be picked and then they pick some local kid who's only reason for scoring a slew of goals was because he had a mans body and he was playing against children. No amount of junior or AHL is going to season him enough.

The blame is on Benning who is the worst GM in the last 20 years for Vancouver.

The blame is on Benning but we were destined to take Virtanen before Wed even hired a GM. Ownership wanted a GM who valued size over smarts and it wouldn't even surprise me if taking Virtanen was an interview question.

really low point for jake. we'll see how he learns and grows from this.

For now it is definitely time to go back to junior. can't change what has been done to this point.

I would say they get more knowledge and they get wiser but they don't get smarter.

Still, some wisdom would definitely help. Unfortunately our GM is as likely as not to see this as a real good tournament for Jake.

Right, its about learning not getting smarter.

If Jake is unable to learn the game he will struggle. Not everyone gets smarter and people get smarter at different rates which in normal life might not be an issue when you have decades to figure something out.

Jake has 3-4 years to figure it out. At this point he has not shown that at any level really.
