At first I thought Thomas missed the wide open net but on the replay it juuuust glances off Oettinger's stick.

Otter knew he was beat on the play and was shown laughing about it afterwards. Pure luck and nothing more.

It was luck that Thomas shot back into him, but these guys have such incredible hand eye coordination it's more like planned luck than just lucky.

It wasn't accidental but it was certainly a low effort play that got luckily rewarded

Pretty much this. He's standing upright, out of position and knows Thomas has a wide open net to shoot in.....but it's not like he can just ignore the scoring chance so he flails his stick out randomly for that miracle stop, and it actually worked.
