CBJ needs some depth at defense now that Nutivaara and Kukan are out with injuries. Not to mention that Jack Johnson will most likely be traded within the next week.
Strength: He's not bad.
Weakness: He's not good.
Chorney is the latest in a progression of 5th-7th D the Capitals have utilized in the past 4-5 seasons beginning with Scott Hannan, continuing through Jack Hillen, and more recently Chorney. Basically Trotz and others before him liked having a declining vet in that hole because they never trusted the Caps youth and depth (I'd say rightly). Djoos and (to a far lesser extent) Bowey have played well enough that Chorney no longer has a purpose. There also seems to be a strategy to pick up a few vet waiver-fodder D (Kempney, Jerabek) for depth heading into the POs.
