This must have been at the end of a long shift and he was gassed, because he makes a few poor decisions in a short timeframe. But then again he wasn't alone. Got stuck tracking Scheifele who went behind the net which opened up the passing lane through the slot. Then panics and overcommits to play the shot which opens up the lane to the top of the crease.

So while this could be an anomaly, there's enough blame for him to shoulder besides just falling down.

It was a 6th attacker goal and he'd been on the ice for most of the last 5 minutes.

I thought he did an excellent job playing Johnny Hockey. Good stickwork, but able to easily get back into position on him if that failed.

I was really impressed with Slavin when the Flames played the Hurricanes on Thursday. He did a really good job of holding Gaudreau in check.

That explains a lot. I hope my post didn't come off as a smear job. I was trying to be even-handed about it, as these plays (and worse) happen to every single player in the game at some point.

I tend to be pretty cynical about our our young guys until they prove themselves, but Slavin has me completely sold. He does everything you want from a defenseman. At this point I consider him a solid option to be the "B" guy on a first pair.

I'm hesitant to try and project his future, but his upside is pretty high if he develops a stronger offensive game. He's never going to overwhelm anyone with his shot, but he's got the hockey sense to score his fair share of goals.
