Teams always want responsible centres at the deadline.
The Habs can eat half his cap hit, or absorb another expiring contract to make the money work.
Plekanec is one of very few centres available on teams that are sure sellers... and of teams that are sure sellers he's probably the best right now.

If Philly becomes a seller then maybe Filpulla is available, but they are not a sure seller right now. Maybe Matt Stajan if Calgary is a seller, but again they aren't out of it yet.

Pleks may not return a first... but he gets 2nd + and its a bigger plus than Kerby Rychel who cleared waivers this year.

Plekanec isn't getting a 1st unless some team has 4 1sts and the owners daughter has a crush on him. He's not worth that much. A team that's really desperate for a defensive minded C might give up a late 2nd and a prospect that would never make their team. That doesn't mean a bad prospect either just probably a former late 1st that's like 22 and hasn't proven himself yet. Like a Rychel.

I'd say the Habs want to give up trading then. Same as Pacioretty or Weber rumours...there's nothing in. A late 2nd and waiver wire claim? Late 2nds rarely make it. Might as well keep them as give them away.
