Toronto Maple Leafs at Florida Panthers: Tuesday game preview

Jaromir Jagr has scored at least 25 goals in 18 seasons.

By: Mark Zwolinski Sports reporter, Published on Tue Mar 29 2016

BB&T CENTER

Puck drop: 7:30 pm

TV: TSN4

Radio: TSN 1050 Toronto

Key matchup: Vincent Trocheck vs. Martin Marincin.

The Leafs’ youthful defence corps, Marincin included, will need to keep a close eye on Trocheck, who Florida GM Dale Tallon says “saved our team this year.†Trocheck shares the team lead in goals with Jaromir Jagr, each with 25. Trocheck started the season on right wing, but injuries to young centres Nick Bjugstad and Alex Barkov forced a move to the middle, and he filled what looked like a huge hole in the lineup.

Need to know: The feel-good story of Jagr rolls along. The 44-year-old scored his 25th goal in a win over Tampa that put Florida back in first place. It is 18th time Jagr has scored 25 goals in a season . . . Thirty-six-year-old goalie Roberto Luongo is eighth in the NHL with 32 wins, seventh in save percentage (.922) and 15th in goals-against average (2.34) . . . The Panthers are ninth in the league with 209 goals; they have eight players with 14 or more goals and four — Jagr, Trocheck, Barkov, and Reilly Smith — with 23 or more.

Up next: Thursday, at Buffalo, 7 p.m.

Remember how some people were furious when we didn't re-sign Bolland

I always liked Bolland, but we broke his body. An excellent type of player to have but durability was an issue, probably our best non-signing.

Wasn't too impressed with the Panthers last time we played them, so hopefully they are looking to show their actual strengths tonight.

Can't really afford many more wins without giving up a draft spot or two, Oilers and Canucks are just that bad.

I was at the game, it was awful. I've never not enjoyed a panthers win as much as that game. 2 fluke goals, Reilly's was a softie, then two empty netters. Hopefully we come out strong tonight. No way Hyman doesn't get a goal

Certainly Florida can't go into this game cocky. Considering they only won the last game due entirely to fluke goals and empty netters.

Regardless the team will certainly be determined after being shut out by Tampa so who knows what will happen.

We usually have trouble with Florida and we're playing the 2nd game of back to backs and 3rd in 4 nights. We should lose. But with this team who knows.

I feel a good game tonight. For some reason.
Some emotion, a fight, a close game.
I seriously don't even look at back 2 backs as a problem any more. Far too many young legs that were used to 3 in 3, I think we come out buzzing and get an early lead.

I can see Bernier stealing a W tonight. Hopefully that does not happen

Signing Bolland would have been a mistake for TO in hindsight but funny how it does not appear to have hurt the Panthers.

Our sched was really weird this year. It's been either super hard (for a lot of it), or sometimes super easy (for less of it), now it's what you see.
