I believe last season's team had much better record and stats 1st part of the season than 2nd part of the season. This can easily happen to this team too.
I strongly doubt this team is any better than last season's team at this point. I won't use 3 seconds to find out.

Current season has been slightly better.

Season 2021-22, after 47 games at ALL-STAR break.
20-21-6 record, 46 points

Season 2022-23, after 47 games
21-18-8 record, 50 points

23rd best team at goal-scoring (2.72 GF), season 2021-22, at all-star break
23rd best team at goal-scoring (3.00 GF), season 2022-23, at all-star break

26th best team at GAA (3.43), season 2021-22, at all-star break
21st best team at GAA (3.27), season 2022-23, at all-star break

Season 2021-22 GF% 44.2, at all-star break (2.72 / 3.43)
Season 2022-23 GF% 47.8, at all-star break (3.00 / 3.27)

Defence has improved, offence is relatively the same vs. other teams. Like we have scored much more versus last season 2.72 per game. But so has whole NHL.

The defence and goaltending has improved.

Does this break benefit us? Why?
It certainly can't hurt. It's not like the team was on a hot streak.

It gives injured and older players time to rest and recover before heading into the second half of the season. And hopefully they can work on things like not giving up a friggin goal one minute after they score one.

We’re basically less of a pushover than we usually are but that’s about it. Like you’re still likely to beat us, but most nights we’ll make you work for it.

Ours is a moral victory.

All the teams get the break. What I wonder about does the break serve us better than other teams.

A lot of talk about boring defensive hockey. The truth is you have to lock down a good defense before worrying about offense, and often times offense comes from that defense. We don't have the personnel to play like the Leafs or Panthers or Avalanche yet. What we do have are some very good defensemen coming up. It's quite obvious they're working on improving the defense now and then in a year or two once guys like Kasper and whoever we pick this year are making the team and Raymond and Berggren are comfortable they'll start worrying about offense.

I'll drag out my dead-horse-skinned drum and bang on that a little: For me as a fan, this year's team is much more watchable than it was the previous couple of seasons. Have there been a couple of dump games where I retreat into my office and listen to the TV in the other room and maybe come out to watch a replay or two? Yep. But there were a LOT of those the last few years.

Most nights, most of the game, they look like a team with a plan. I find that refreshing.

Yeah, and you have to live through this to become a winner.

It can't be done overnight.
