Rationale-
Gives Detroit a fairly young, top line talent.
Gives Islanders cap room to sign Kadri AND a prominent LHD prospect to go along with Dobson.


The Wings fans will howl, and I get it.
But they still have Wallinder, Johansson, Sebrango, Viro and maybe McIsaac as solid LD prospects.
Islanders - Not sure getting a prospect is enough for Barzal - But Edvinsson is a pretty serious prospect.

The isles are not trading Barzal for picks/prospects. The isles are in win now mode. If they miss the playoffs this year, that may change, but as of now Barzal is not available.

No, Edvinsson isn't enough would still cost us at least Vrana and our 2023 1st round pick on top of Edvinsson. Not paying that price for Matthew Barzal.

But my take is if your asking and proposing trades here, then your likely partially assuming Isles fans to play the role of GM.

Bailey or Beauvlier is available. Detroit can have either if they’re interested. Failing at making a transaction with either… I walk back with the same team.

But I’m not moving Barzal or any core player, or paying major assets to move a useful player just to overpay Kadri.

I have a much harder time giving up on the 6'6 defenseman.
