Sources: Isles expected to play Coliseum next season

Multiple sources told The Point on Friday that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is expected to head to Nassau Coliseum Saturday afternoon before the New York Islanders’ 1 p.m. home game against the Boston Bruins.
But he won’t be there just to watch a hockey game.

Instead, Cuomo is expected to come to the arena to announce before the game that the Islanders will play any playoff games this year and next year, along with their entire home schedule for the 2020-2021 season, at the Coliseum.

...

Last month, however, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran sent a letter to National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman requesting that the Islanders play their entire 2020-2021 season at the Coliseum. Bettman’s initial response was that the request was “a little premature.”
Friday afternoon, Curran applauded the upcoming announcement.

I feel so vindicated saying the Islanders will not be able to sign any big* UFA's until they got their new arena like 3 years ago

From the article:

Billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov’s Onexim Sports and Entertainment, which operates the arena under a lease from Nassau County, is planning to shutter the venue indefinitely while it seeks investors to take over operations and pick up the remaining debt on the building, according to people familiar with the matter.

This doesn't necessarily mean the team won't be able to play there at all, it just means current ownership isn't operating the building at the moment. It hasn't been open since COVID started.

Frankly, none of this matters if fans aren't in the buildings next season. They could play their games on the moon for all anyone cares.

This is just a way for the ownership of the building to let go of virtually all the staff and limit continuing debt while attempting to add on more investors. I'm not worried about the building opening back up for the Islanders when play resumes. Hell for all we know the secret investor-in-talks could be Malkin/Ledecky.

But time will tell and the Islanders being homeless is just a perpetual state of being.

Yeah I agree, just more BS until Belmont is here.

they are going to play there if there is hockey played at local arenas next year, they are not going to allow this arena to just go vacant, after Belmont opens it is going to be screwed but they are going to make money out of it if they are able to

We are the most boring soap opera franchise ever. We didn’t use to be, when we were hiring criminals to own the team, had owners that wanted an NFL team or an owner that wanted a 5,000 story apartment complex but lately, just a lot of ridiculousness that isn’t entertaining

There are also a number of lawsuits STILL ONGOING against the building/town with regards to asbestos. I love NVMC, but I won't miss the drama.

Today's live cam of the construction. They are on schedule for fall 2021 opening.

Been watching 30 min and all I see is cars drive by. :sarcasm:

Seriously, not sure why they keep the live stream up when nothing is happening.
