From the morning skate
Mildly surprised but not really. I’m sure Lambert views Varlamov as completely capable of delivering a W in a big spot. Snd playing him tonight doesn’t let him sit so long that he gets stale.
I had asked the question in another thread after the last game, and , yes it is a slight risk but thought that Varly would start today.
- If Varly doesn't play it would be at least 2 weeks in between starts.
- Think they may want to keep Sorokin fresh. He has started 47 and played 49.
- I think they have faith in both.
- We only have 3 back to backs left this year, so if you do want to split the time 75/25 or 2/1, this game makes sense with timing.
- Not sure if ex-team factors in but believe Varly has been good vs Caps
- Imagine having a shut out (Varly's last game, then waiting 18 days for your next start Wed in Anaheim when he will likely play agaiN)
I could have seen it either way, but even though Sorokin is clear cut #1 and a stud, I kind of wanted to see Varly tonight, thinking long term. Get Sorokin a few extra days after some big high stress wins).
