I don’t agree with the exact order or a few individual spots but I absolutely love the depth our organization has.

I’m telling you guys, 1 more solid draft and we will have a nice crop of players who this time around will have the guidance of Trotz. Not Capuano or Weight or Nolan or Milbury. Rebuilding is something we have known for a while but since Torrey I question whether this team has overseen a competent rebuild

This is one of the first years I can say that I'm happy with the prospect depth all the way to 19. More often than not I wouldn't get past 5 or 6 before I came to the conclusion that the rest of the prospects in the org were not anything of value.

I’m interested to see how Corey Pronman ranks this pool. There Islanders are a top five pool for him, but he prospects in different tiers and then ranks the U-23 players in the organization.

Can we start a new list, ranking prospects we believe will make the NHL?

So Athletic ranked us 5th in the NHL for farm system. Not sure what is and is not allowed to be discussed about a paywalled article?

Obviously copy+paste if the article is a no no but can we discuss and disclose the ranking of players from the article. FYI I am subscribed to the athletic but would still like to discuss his rankings here.

The top 10 is listed in the prospect section, you could probably just post that and other general impressions here.

LWOS has us ranked 5th as well...

given that Barzal and Beau are both top C's, and are only 21, i don't see a lack of quality young C's in the organization. throw in Iskhakov, and a few quality bottom 6 types, in Pivonka and Jenkins, and i think we are ok.

would like to see LL trade a 'ready' LD (Aho, Toews, MVS, Wotherspoon) for a C of similar value, but i don't think it is imperative.

would love a high end LD prospect, but would rather a high end LD that i s currently playing, like Trouba.

all in all, i really like the new direction that LL&Co have us going. i am encourged. a bit impatient, but encouraged.

Iskhakov is probably not a centre in the pros. Much likelier he plays wing

I don't think Beauvillier is a center, he's looked best on the wing and he's looked really good flanking Barzal. I think he should be kept in that spot all season, that leaves us only with Barzal who is unquestionably a center. Our biggest hole is the lack of a long term #2C option, likely addressed in the draft.

Trouba is a RH shot RD. He can play on his offside, but I think that's been a point of contention with him and the Jets. He wants to play on the right side, we aren't lacking options there. We need a premium LHD with legit top-4 and hopefully top pairing upside, that's our 2nd biggest need behind the premium center.

As for goaltending, I am concerned a bit. Sorokin is at least a year away, maybe even two if we have to wait for his KHL deal to expire. Soderstrom was hurt last year, he's hurt now. His prospect star has lost a lot of luster recently. Skarek is a kid and is years away if he even pans out. I think we might need to draft a goalie and maybe as early as a late 1st or early 2nd, that would be really hedging our bets.

Spencer Knight at eliteprospects.com

If we add some extra picks in the late 1st or early 2nd, this kid would really make our stable of young goalies high end.

I'll be pretty surprised if we ever see Beauvillier up the middle unless (or until) a superior 1st line LWer who can skate with Barzal shows up. I could be wrong.

I'm also thinking Iskhakov isn't a classic center by any means and his type survive better on the wing (if folks want him producing, in any case) while Jenkins is basically, well, a winger. I'm not sure he played a minute up the middle last season.

Aside from the Stevens and St. Denis' of the world, I don't think we have another true center in the organization until Pivonka, who is a kid I fully feel will become an NHL player for a lower line. Might even be a Lars Eller type when all is said and done.

Very interesting thought. We've got plenty of guys of this ilk. Salo and Mirageas down the road as well.

Definitely encouraged.

In fact, for those who know that Rome wasn't built in a day, it was actually incredibly refreshing to just see the team sit back and take a player with every opportunity. That was the move of experience.

For me, the best long-term case scenario for next season is:
- We cut down significantly in goals against.
- We do not experience the huge drop in goals-for that is expected.
- Barzal and Beau form our biggest offensive duo, with Barzal again getting 70+ points and Beau hitting over 30 goals.
- We play a lot of physical games where, win or lose, we come out the champion of brawn and of hearts.
- We see Lehner and Greiss form a suitable duo that rarely responsible for a loss.
- Pulock takes another step while won of Toews or Aho becomes a truly reliable option in a time where Boychuk is fading.
- The team plays well, but is far enough away from a PO sport for Lou to move the guys he's determined he's not planning with. We get picks back, but a young body or two as well.
- The team surprises over the last 25 games and slides into the 8th PO spot with a huge late surge, because Trotz's whole thang just ALL comes together.

Love ya PW but I gotta disagree concerning goal-tending. Risky move to pick a goalie in rounds 1-2 IMHO. I agree selecting another wouldn't be a terrible idea but I am fairly comfortable with Sorokin and Skarek - the more pressing need (as you acknowledge) is a #2C, and secondarily, a left shooting top 4 D. Goalies are a huge crapshoot in the draft; I would prefer waiting until later (hopefully we can snag a 3rd round pick with some of our assets)

regarding Beauvillier. taken from eliteprospects....

"A dynamic scoring center with good hockey sense. Not very large in stature, but makes up for it in speed, skill, and cunning. A talented puck-handler with good hands: is equally efficient a passer as he is a goal scorer. All-in-all, an offensively minded center that can outplay the opposition in a number of different ways. Needs to work on discipline and getting stronger. (Curtis Joe, EP 2014)"

lots of centers start out on wing when they first make it. it's not unusual.

and again, i would suggest that Barzal makes those around him better. i have faith that Lee or Bellows would fit well with him.

thankfully, there seems like many possible line combinations. i would be really disappointed in LL if he doesn't experiment, and find the best overall combinations.

Beauviller was drafted out of junior as a center but I think his chemistry with Barzal, Barzal’s playmaking ability and Beauviller’s quick shot are way to good to pass up.
