Is there any team that has the "Lightning" potential?

Now forget the playoff disaster, focus only to Tampa Bay regular season achievements. Especially, their 62 wins.
Is there any team in NHL right now, that could in the near future did the same?

That means, high potent offense, brutal defense and closing door goalies.

Colorado Avalanche?
Calgary Flames?

If you count combined regular season and playoff wins, a bunch of teams could get more than the 62 Tampa got.

Winnipeg, they just need a hot season from Hellebuyck and a better back up.

Toronto, they need better defence and possibly a backup for Andersen.

Maybe Washington as well?

No idea why you would suggest the Avs for this.

Need a really good team that’s deep at forward in a division that has a really bad lower half. That’s Calgary.

If Florida adds Panarin, I think their forward group would be elite:

Huberdeau - Barkov - Hoffman
Panarin - Trocheck - Dadonov
Vatrano - Borgstrom - Tippett
Hawryluk - Sheahan - Sceviour

Thats if they decide to keep on to Hoffman, instead of moving him for a Dman.

Well, 2 lines anyway.

Borgstrom showed promise, and Vatrano is a 20+ goal scorer, and with Tippett, the 3rd line would be capable of scoring goals. Id actually switch it up a bit:

Huberdeau - Barkov - Hoffman
Panarin - Borgstrom - Dadonov
Hoffman - Trocheck - Vatrano
Hawryluk - Sheahan - Sceviour

He did say "brutal" defense, which according to HF we lead the league in.

Isles were top 5 with a garbage offense.

If they had Snake or a Panarin......

No. They have everything you need. #1 center(franchise), #1 Defenseman(franchise) , #1 goalie(franchise), #1 winger(Franchise)

They have two number 1 centers if you count point. There depth is tremendous.

They shouldn’t lose like that. Absolutely incredible what the Jackets did.

Since you're talking about regular season only, it seems a bit weird to say that the team which allowed 5th fewest goals in the league had brutal defense.

Toronto if they get Jon Cooper as a coach and some of their recent draft picks or acquisitions translate well to the NHL (Liljegren, Sandin, Bracco, Rosen). Matthews will also need to find another gear and Nylander needs to get back to 100% which I'm confident they both will over time.

I consider them to be a deeper team than Tampa offensively, I just think the coaching is dogshit. The Lightning play more than the sum of their parts, the Leafs play less than the sum of their parts.

I don't see any team being able to do so. The teams with good forward groups (Vegas, Leafs) don't seem to have the defense to do it or the cap space/assets to fix it properly. Avs are too thin up front. I guess Blues could if Thomas, Kyrou and Dunn hit developmental jackpots.

As impressive as this years Tampa were, remember that 2013 Blackhawks were on pace for 61 wins and 131 points.

A LOT would have to go right, but I agree with others saying Florida(if the Russian Duo joins)/Colorado have the best shot.

I’d say Colorado would have been perfectly set up had the lottery not gone wrong for them and they add Hughes but even with whoever they pick 4th it should help fix their forward depth issues. They also have a ton of cap space to spend and a future Norris caliber D in Makar coming.

Florida is a team who has been stockpiling some very good prospects, and are about to add a 1st like W and Vezina caliber G for free.

They have the star power (Huberdeau/Barkov/Panarin)

They have the forward depth (Dadonov/Trochek/Hoffman/Vatrano)

They have some big name prospects coming up to take big roles on an ELC that allows them to keep their star players (Borgstrom/Tippet/Denisenko)

Vezina winning G (Bobrovsky)

They have two good but not great top pairing D in Yandle/Ekblad but they definitely need help here.

I could see the Avs maybe, but don't know if Grubauer and Varly can get them there. The Capitals could get close as well, but would have to lean heavy on Holtby so they would probably fall short. Columbus could possibly do it if everything works just right throughout the season, because they have a good offense and defense and if Bobrovsky stays.
