Is Matthews now the best player in the league?

McDavid is McDavid and he's coasting and always great. But what Matthews is doing now should give him a solid argument as being the leagues best player. 56 goals and 49 in last 49. What more does he need to be the best player in the league? Or is he the best in the league already? Seems like scoring is a joke for him and super easy.

Some amazing individual performances this year, the league should be selling the hell out of these stars...
Matthews, McDavid, Leon, Josi, Makar, Gaudreau, I would say Shestyrkin, but good luck marketing anything Russian these days.

Any of these guys could win Hart over some of the recent season winners, just amazing all happening in the same year. So fun to watch them all.

I certainly don't think it's laughable. Matthews is going off right now.

Best player kind of depends over what time threshold you're looking at and everything else, but I'd say there's a good argument he is finishing out this season better than anyone else.

His defensive play and control of the puck is immense. Marner is a great complimentary player and fantastic in his own right (in the regular season at least), but Matthews is a clear level above all around.
