Would Seattle pick him given the signing bonus money he is owed every year and cap hit?

Would Tavares consider waiving NMC for the draft to help the team out and essentially given them an additional roster spot?

I think there would be a better chance for Tavares to be claimed in comparison to an Erik Johnson. Can't imagine he'd waive and I can't imagine the Leafs would even ask him to do so.

Deadline for players to waive their NMC's for expansion was yesterday at 5pm est.

Edit: Apparently it's Friday at 5pm?

A stud 31yr old #1C on a 4yr deal that only costs them $8.3m per year in actual money?

Yeah they'd fall all over themselves to grab him, obviously.

$6.2M. His bonus for 2021-22 is already paid out.

we would never expose him, under any circumstance, to even make that suggestion makes me question people's sanity.

...and if there was even the rumor we would even consider exposing/insulting him, we'd have a bunch of teams making offers on him, well before the draft.
there are quite a few teams without a true #1C, and even less at the level of John Tavares.

What a dumb question

Did you even see the team without him?

Yes

The team in 2017-18 without Tavares set a new 100 year old franchise best record of 105 points & 49 wins and finished 6th overall in the league.

Then they changed GMs who immediately signed JT.

Have you seen the team results with him?

He won't waive his NMC but I wouldn't be mad if he were to just magically disappear off the roster, probably easier to balance it out.

We had a better regular season this year with the new GM and JT. So if that’s what you’re gonna cite at least be honest.

That old GM had the young guns on ELCs and decided to waste our cap space on Zaitsev, Marleau and Martin. He also drafted garbage. It cost us a 1st and Connor Brown to get out of his horrible decisions.

Lou lovers are out of control these days.

Oh also your perfect spectacular old GM tried to sign JT as well  the only difference is the new guy got the job done.

we also had a bunch of scoring we no longer have. Are we magically going to get Kadri, JVR, Connor Brown, Kapanen back? Our depth players are not even close to being as good

additionally do you really believe that if Lou was still GM he wouldn’t have tried to sign John Tavares? Let’s call a spade a spade. Tavares coming to the Leafs was a lock. It was happening regardless of who the GM was. Tavares left money on the table to come here, could he have left more? Possibly but why would he?

You mean playing only 56 games and only against 6 Canadian team, and avoiding 24 USA based ones which was a once in 100 year situation. :)

What happens when that goes away and Leafs return to the Atlantic where they've never finished higher than 3rd in their own Div even with JT?

Can only play the cards you’re dealt. The Leafs didn’t create the pandemic.

But since we’re talking about the Covid impacted league, can we also disregard the Isles playoff performance?

Or does it only matter when it’s convenient to you?

We live in a world where people think the Leafs have been improving the past couple. So, thinking Tavares could get exposed is not something that should be surprising to anyone
